Coach O,

For the love of God please go out and hire a special teams coordinator. If the rant witnesses another botched FG attempt from 14 yards out, it will turn into a mass suicide board.

Signed,

He is a consultant and probably was the worst special teams coordinator in the NFL

shite hire the announcer from the game. He seemed to spot the kicker's problem right away

Been preaching this forever.... dunno why they think every other position needs development but kickers are just magically automatic

Neither kicker we have is worth a shite but our starting kicker is a walk on. Kind of tells you no one cares about special teams.

I got hammered for bringing this up a few days ago. My flaw was comparing our lack of a ST coach to Dinardo saying he didn’t need one and Wide Richey was horrible at LSU, but pretty good in the NFL

I think not having one allows Orgeron more contact with recruits. So, yes we need to hire one but after NSD.

Has nothing to do with recruiting. He will hire one when the extra coach is added. Not many teams have dedicated st coaches Both nana and Clemson have their te coach incharge of st. Neither of those coaches are st experts. Kickers and punters generally get help from outside sources. Even when we had joe rob he mainly helped lbers during practice.
Actually burton burns is Alabama st coach. I doubt he spends much time in practice working with the kickers.

McMann is the special teams advisor and apparently the coach in waiting but he got run off from the Saints because their special teams were crappy and the kicker, Lutz, couldn't kick the ball over the linemen.

Not sure this is totally true. The kickers aren't awful; they produce bad results, in large part, because they're not getting actual coaching.

Gamble needs to shorten his approach and kick through the ball. He's been a bit better, but there's no physical nor strategic reason he shouldn't put the ball out of the back of the endzone. His trajectory balloons because his approach routinely puts his inside shoulder on the inside of the ball's seam. He needs to see some tape of his kicking motion and focus on getting the outside shoulder in line with outside of the ball. Pair that with forcing him to kick through the ball rather than poking at it, and we'll never speak of this again.

Regarding the place kickers, the younger Rodgers was correct. Both kickers plant way too close to the ball. This forces the hips to rotate out-in and causes a pull. It's roughly akin to a golf shank. Again, watching some tape and pairing it with a half-step chipping drill fixes this.

Tl;dr get a fricking video camera and consult a former kicker, and all these problems go away.
