If we get a surprise effort off the bench from someone like Ward or Justice Williams again that’ll help

Have a chance to eek out a close one only to get absolutely throttled Friday

That would be my biggest criticism of MM. He took too long to play the freshmen and after last night Phillips needs to be eating up some minutes. He is the only rim protector we have and he was aggressive offensively in the post. way more polished than Efton Reid as a freshman. He also helps keep KJ out of foul trouble.

Maybe he has waited to play them until he felt they were ready to have some success and contribute?

Phillips looked great last night. That's the kind of C play they need and he will only get better.

Ward is growing into a nice wing.

I'm not sure why the light has not yet come on for Reed but it will eventually.

Getting a great PG (or two) would go a long way for this team. Getting Wilkinson back for his D will help, too.

Are you suggesting that we may have lost two more SEC games if they had played earlier?

Not offensively. Reid was a pretty skilled "traditional" center offensively as a freshmen. The problem is he struggled everywhere else. While not much of an offensive threat outside of wild back to the basket moves inside and putbacks, Phillips is very active defensively and is a willing rebounder. Plus, you simply can't "teach" length.

I've thought all season he's showed flashes when he's played. He just didn't play a lot. Certainly a guy who looked like who could have a greater impact than some other freshman big men in the past (Elbert Robinson and Reid come to mind). I guess McMahon wanted to avoid clogging up the lane so much so as to give KJ more space (teams aren't going to defend Phillips away from the basket). Then again, I'm not quite sure what McMahon wants to do offensively (and horrible numbers bear that out)

If nothing else, opposing coaches see the length Ward, Reed, and Phillips have. I'm sure they will have options to transfer. Hopefully McMahon can keep them because getting them to sign so late in the recruiting period has been the ONLY good thing he has done since becoming LSU's HC.

Did you watch the game against Kentucky a couple months ago?

I’m suggesting maybe the coach knows more than fans like you. Maybe he’s thinking big picture and protecting the players in terms of doing what’s best for their physical and emotional development as college basketball players

Crazy concept to think maybe he knows more than you, but he just might Gus.

We are going to lose a bunch of production and don't exactly have oodles of talent, they should have plenty of opportunity for real minutes next year. Hopefully they stay and continue to develop.
