I think Phil actually watched how Bama threw the ball all over the field against us in the title game. And say what you want. Mathieu may be a ball hawk and is an exciting player, He is NOT that good of an actual DB.

2011-2012 Passing Defense Statistics

OSU: 57.8% comp, 10.98 yds/comp, 24 INT, 265.6 yds/game, 23 TD passes

LSU: 51.1% comp, 10.48 yds/comp, 18 INT, 166.2 yds/game, 18 TD passes

Oklahoma St. had 2 guys drafted from their secondary in 2012 Markelle Martin and Johnny Thomas (both starting safeties)

LSU had Morris Claiborne and Brandon Taylor drafted.

234 yards is not exactly throwing the ball all over the field. Bama was extremely effect with the short outlet passes to the TE, crossing routes, corner routes that are not really easy to defend. People use one or two games as evidence that Mathieu isn't a good cover corner just isn't fair. If he was that poor of a CB, Chavis would have some else starting opposite Mo. Absurd!

Not really. He IS a plamaker BIG TIME. You have to have him on the field if you are LSU. But as far as a cover corner, He needs alot of work.

Well, if we have to play a team with the best OL in CFB and a QB throwing perfect passes all night, then I guess he's in trouble.

They had a brilliant game plan and executed it to perfection. Some how a lot of people forget the last part, which is all that matters really.

He is not the lock down cover corner that CM and PP were, but that's ok.

If that's the case, then why not only play him in nickel situations only? Every CB gets beat. And people would rather throw against the shorter Mathieu then top 10 draftee Mo Claiborne. Bama knew they had to run safe routes that had almost zero chance to be picked off.

LSU beat UF 41-11. LSU allowed 213 yards. FSU beat UF 21-7 which is not a shutout. FSU allowed 184 total yards. Not that much of a difference if you ask me.

A few thoughts

LSU played them in Tiger Stadium.

FSU played us in The Swamp.

FSUs defense didn't allow one point. 21-0 was the score....but I can see how you wouldn't remember that score.

FSUs offense was only able to pick up 92 yards of offense....which puts a huge strain on their defense. Their defense was still able to shut out our offense.

I can see how people would go into the season saying FSU has a better Dline than LSU. Especially after they watched Alabama put up almost 400 yards on them in NOLA.

I'll take the high road and say i for one was very impressed with florida's win over a 6-6 ohio state team in the gator bowl. Just go easy on LSU this season

The UF-FSU score was 21-7, UF's td was a 6 yd pass from Brissett to Dunbar

UF only scored a TD on us because claiborne thought the wr stepped out and gave up on the play

I apologize. I forgot we threw a TD with 10 seconds left in the game.

Phil Steele is more a predictive end of season rank not as much of a preseason poll like the others.

Can't really argue with it anyway. LSU as a whole took a hit after the BCS game so I wouldn't expect to be #1 across the board.

Also, the actually numbers are so close with the top 5 across most polls that basically what they are saying is the title is up for grabs.

this. He really thinks a lot of himself, and doesn't realize that ego is beginning to destroy what reputation he had. He is also much like kowterd, he will never admit he was wrong.

yes, but of course that didn't work the same way with LSU's D in new orleans right? especially given the fact that LSU starting going for it on fourth down in their own territory in the 4th. No strain at all on the defense....lmao...idiot. How old are you? 12?

Florida once had a good program. Florida sucks now. Suck all the florida st balls you want, but they are not a championship type team, even though the media trys to make them one every year.
