I recall that when he was passed over for Dinardo and the players were very upset over the Dinardo hire, he went to the athletic dorm to calm them down. He had a pretty good run with Baylor.

He is an Aggie and has always kept a home here in College Station. His new wife still lives in College Station and never moves with him.
Aggies are still mad at him because he said A&M was running from Texas when they left the Big 12 and thought going to the SEC was a bad move for the school. I like Phil but he was wrong.

So far the move to the SEC has been a good financial move for A&M but even with Jimbo you boys will be middle of the pack in the SEC most years. Sooner or later A&M will have a really good year but then so does Mississippi State.

I A&M stayed in the Big XII they would probably have been undefeated and playing Bama in the BCS CG

His Baylor Defenses were historically bad. Briles used to tell him to keep it under 35. His ego is.....LARGE. He does not recruit much off campus and is a staff divider.
Baylor had open practices and he was screamer who never said much. As you can tell, not a fan-- I lived in Waco the whole time he was there. My fave was when his defense was deadasslast in the Big 12 and he announced in the media he would take over special teams as well. Forgot to tell Briles
