Perspective on No. 13 ranking

In the BCS era, the average Coaches Poll preseason ranking of participants in the BCS NCG is 6.433--winning team is 7.33, losing team 5.53. Median for winning teams is 5, mode is 2, and current trend is 5.53.
5/30 teams have started the year above 13, three have won it including LSU in 2003. That's 16%. 13 falls within a standard deviation of the total.
2/3 of BCS NCG teams were ranked in the preseason top 5, but that's to be expected.
Point is, odds are not entirely in our favor, but we are certainly in decent shape, based on the past.
We control our own destiny and that's all you can ask for, other than a balanced schedule of course, but that's not happening.

yes, they are.
we play 4 top 10 teams. i'd say we control our own destiny.
ETA: now doing it is another story, but it's right in front of us for the taking.

No one would have believed that in 2007 either. Never say never.

I would rather go by the projected team to be on the field over average rankings in BCS era

We are not winning a NC this year.

Pre-season rankings don't mean much at all, they are just opinions.
JUST WIN!!
JUST WIN!!

Agreed. Still pumped when the rankings come out. Gonna be a fun year.

Why not? We've got plenty of talent. If Cameron is a great hire and Miles let's his assistant do the vast majority of gameplanning and playcalling, we could concievably win the NC.
I never concede a season before it begins.
