Sure it was. Held Florida to 55 rushing yards on 31 attempts, and had it not been for a couple of fluke busted pass plays, Florida's offensive production would have been less than 300 yards.

Pretty damn solid against a team that boat raced the Ole Miss defense a couple weeks ago.

Two principal thoughts:

- The defensive PLAYCALLING looks just about perfect, so no gripes there... but then...

- The DB's and linebackers on passing plays look totally confused. How can it be that so many opponents are running wide open when we primarily play man for man? Take a man, stick with him... get safety help. Doesn't seem all that complicated but something's getting lost in translation.

we're running a lot of zone

that first long wheel route was a zone blitz with key in the short area without cover behind him

Steele sucks, and he's bringing Cory Raymond down with him.

as great is Tolliver is, he is a true freshman

The wide open TE plays were disturbing

just blow assignment all the way

about 100 yards on those 2 plays

My fears of a Steele disaster on defense have been laid to rest.

We need to go back to playing more man to man. Isn't this exactly why we recruit elite corners?

it's probably more of a safety/LB issue + d thomas

we may see completely different coverages with mills

You have to be able to play zone, especially against the video game offenses.

We will continue to get better there and people are underselling the hell out of Treon Harris who was awesome last night, IMO.

The pass rush is back and the linebacker play in the box has ironically, never been better. Once we patch up the zone schemes, we will start to see more turnovers. I like where we are at, we just need a true cover guy in the nickel.

wow. that is a totally different perspective than what i had read before. i never thought about nick saban hiring steele a second time. that right there ought to say alot to lsu fans who still lovingly long for saban to return.

my hope was that with o's d line, almost any db scheme has a chance to be successful and so far, that's played out. i definitely have more confidence in steele now that i have read the op.

What happened at Clemson was that Dabo's budget for players had not expanded to buy enough defenders yet.
this doesn't make any sense because clemson had a very respectable d for steele's first 3 seasons. the fourth season was when the bottom fell out.
