People need to have context for facts and stats that the sports world float out there..

This past week the sports media had a message about Lane Kiffin's record as a head coach.
I saw the one about wins against top 10 teams on the road.
-Kiffin was 10-10 against ranked teams at Ole Miss
-3-16 across his other stops (Tennessee, USC, and Florida Atlantic) plus his 1-1 start at LSU.
-
Then the one against top 25 teams.
He went 55-19 at Ole Miss with four 10-win seasons, and his 50 wins from 2021 on trailed only Georgia and Alabama in the entire SEC. He took a program with basically no recent history of sustained success and made it a consistent 10-win team — that's a real accomplishment regardless of how the top-10 numbers look.

He was a young head coach, he also went 11-2 at usc one year.
With 30 less scholarship players lol

You shouldn’t use the word “context” here. The Rant thinks context and bias are the same thing.

Clemon wasn't ranked. They were 26 in the AP which is the poll everyone goes off until the Playoff Committee's rankings come out. So he isn't 1-1 against Ranked opponents at LSU yet. If he wins on Saturday then he will be.

So it only matters where they were ranked at the time of the game. If Clemson gets it going and finishes 23rd at the end of the year that win isn't considered a ranked win? If this is the case then the ranked wins stats are useless.

To OPs point its why context matters. Very few do a ranked win at end of year stat.

If you want a good measure of what kind of coach Lane Kiffin is, this will come this week with the A&M game. The ability to overcome a tough, emotion loss and prepare your team for another important game is always a good barometer of a coach.
