Its not steep at all, you just don't understand how markets work.

In the realm of big time college football $1.2 million for an OC isn't outrageous. But I'm talking about the market for Peetz...not the general marketplace for assistant coaches. For instance, Todd Monken was a guy who was tied to other potential jobs when UGA was in the market for an OC. There was somewhat of a history of demand for the guy as he had been interviewed for NFL OC and HC position not too long before UGA ultimately hired him...for $1.1 million.

There was virtually no buzz for Peetz other than LSU. That's not to say he is a bad hire. It just that it's unlikely there were any other potentially employers out there considering tripling his salary. In other words, LSU was only negotiating against themselves for Peetz as an OC...which is kind of the same situation they were in last year when they gave Pelini a massive contract where the market really didn't justify it. You just made the guy the second or third highest paid OC in the SEC when he likely would have taken the job for somewhat less because there wasn't a similar opportunity out there for him. It's the contrast of Freeman who you KNOW is in high demand and you are going to have to likely win a bidding war to get.

2 years is a decent term. Nothing too long-term to see how everything works out. Anything on the buyouts, Woodward structured?

Might have needed this amount to guarantee he won’t go back to Carolina when Brady takes a head coach job or follow brady to be his oc

I like the contracts, $200K lower for those two positions than last year when coaching salaries continue to rise year after year.

So you pay 2 guys that have proven nothing as 1) a play caller and 2) an actual coach at anything above William & Mary only 11% less than a NC OC and former NFL OC and HC with tons of experience for both.

Sounds like genius work I tell you. GENIUS!

And please save me on the "Coaches salaries are going up" when both guys signed their contracts last freaking year.

This is a ridiculous overpay for both. Mangas deserves nothing more than maybe $250k if you are being generous. He has proven absolutely nothing other than to ride on his ex-teammates coattails.

How is that low? That’s around top 15 OC money in the country to start off with

Mangas probably wasn’t making much in Carolina.

should have offered pelini the same contract.

Now that I look back on it, I wouldn't be surprised if Pelini's first response was "no, I'm done." For some reason, LSU wouldn't take no for an answer until Pelini just decided he couldn't walk away from it. However, his drive was gone and he didn't have enough in the tank to make it work.
