"This team is still good enough to make a run if certain guys get hot and we get a few breaks with matchups".

Not if CJJ can't figure out how to get TQ to stop dribbling the ball, and focus on rebounding and Defense, and get some kind of motion offense, and keeping the middle unclogged, for Ben and AD(Thats on CJJ).
But when you only got one shooter who is just coming on late season, what can he do against a zone D. It would be better if KH was helping, but even at that, this team is missing the right size and skill sets at the 3,at the 1 , and the 5 when you include a shot blocking type.

In order for Ben to be effective with his skill set, he's got to put it up more down low( put it up period), but if he does you'll need two good size atheletes to clean his misses up, that is if he misses. But if your 3 is not crashing, and being around rim as a bail out option when he's making his moves, they have an extra man focusing on Ben.
And the bench, it seems like every body is missing one- attribute, size, quickness or skill set.

Forget it. I been going to games for 15 years. Got get Billy from A&M. The mans coaching roots are deep in Louisiana. And he is obviously very good.

I like you Johnny but too much on the line with the 18&19 recruiting classes in Louisiana.

Come home Billy.

How else to explain the repeated, obvious and widespread lack of effort and what seems to me frequent indifference among the majority of the team, apologies to Mr. Blakeney who seems a voice in the wilderness.

I have to agree. I have tried to find every excuse in the world for it because I really wanted CJJ to succeed but you have to at long last put it on the coach for not kicking butt and taking names. He is just too mild mannered. I kept thinking that surely he was doing it in practice but apparently not.

Again I read the quote in the paper from CJJ this morning, "We have just got to get better defensively and rebound better and we'll put ourselves in a position to win".

Sigh.....how many times have we heard this? The year is just about over. I actually think they maybe do practice some of these things in practice and tell them all the right things. The kids just don't do it in games and obviously there's no accountability for that.

i counted four times in the first half mind you where malone didn't block out and gave up a free throw rebound. Terrible passes, guys trying to one hand passes and boards, horrible shots following up terrible stagnant possessions(looking at u sampson)

I have zero faith a johnny team will ever be even remotely solid in terms of fundamentals

Yeah, that had me screaming at the t.v.

Or when we play zone nobody moves. Victor has turned out to be better than I though he would.........offensively, but defensively when we are in zone he does nothing....nothing. He doesn't move, nor does Simmons. I can't fathom how that's acceptable and allowed.

I've referenced before that Dixie basketball camp used to have a great drill station on passing. Probably still do if Dixie still exists. LSU needs to have their kids do that drill twice a week as they seem to lack a fundamental knowledge of passing the basketball.

Is LSU better off for getting Ben for one year. I'd say in the long run it will be.

This is wrong if Johnny Jones stays the coach. It will show that we cannot win with top talent (all be it young talent). No one with a brain will want to step foot on LSUs campus to play under Jones. We cannot coach in practice (shown by the performance in games), we cannot coach during the game (shown by lack of offense and continuity), we cannot motivate a player to hustle.....it is maddening to watch and as big of an LSU basketball fan as I am, I had to quit watching the basketball games because of how angry they would make me. I resorted to listening to Hawthorne call the games because at least his calls masked how bad things were really going to some extent.

The fact of the matter is that when they run a play it is usually successful.

Everyone talks about the offense but it's the defense that is really poor. They're too afraid to foul. Plenty of points are scored but also plenty allowed

It really is and the root cause of that is lack of effort which is unfathomable to me that it has been allowed to the extent it has this year. Accountability.

Johnny needs to go....I had to quit watching UK game when i saw Ben merely being used for setting picks for TQ. REALLY, one of the best players in college hoops, (only) setting picks...wasted talent! (and, that's on the coach!).

Ask Karl Malone if setting picks for John Stockton was a waste of his talent. The pick and roll is fundamental basketball that is beautiful if executed correctly which we didn't seem to be able to do. Most of the time Ben never rolled but I doubt we could get it to him even if he did.

At first I was angry. Now I'm largely apathetic. That spells death for a program when enough fans get to that stage.

We are one of the worst coached teams in college basketball, not just major colleges either. I'm talking the small schools also!!!!
