I think it's neat. It's not something I stress over, but it's a cool little tradition. I much rather this than helmet stickers.

I just wonder how the 18 and 7 are doled out to the player. Do the coaches decide? Do the players vote on it? Is it less formal and a player who wants the number just asks for it. I'm sure a lot of players feel that they have made a name for their own number and like to keep it. Does number 18 really mean anything to these current players anyway, they probably don't know who Matt Flynn or Jacob Hester are.

In my opinion the whole idea has run it's course

Why can't we just let the players decide? After all, it's pertaining to them. If they like it, have at it. It shouldn't bother us/you one bit.

What I've seen written on it, is that the current and former wearers (from Mauck on) vote on it.
