Totally agree, blitzing is a risk/reward situation and think Aranda isn't a big gambler. Think they give running QBs too much respect and sit back and hope our 4 rushers get pressure and they haven't been and the defensive backfield can't cover forever.

Agree. Would like to see Aranda get after Franks and Mond though.

Haven’t had a dominant pass rusher since sophomore Arden Key

Haven’t had a dominant pass rush as a unit since maybe Mingo and Montgomery in 2011

Well, they had about a 20 yard play their first play from scrimmage where our Dline all rushed the passer, and no one picked up screen . Then, hardly ever got close again without blitzing. Dline was getting double teamed and had no elite rushers that could pressure Elinger. We need Elite Dlinemen that can pressure up the middle, which is what will hold us ack this year...

If he just wouldn't do so much dropping back with 3 man line on 3rd and longs. May not be many times but those are the plays that drive me nuts.

That screen was a great playcall to start the game, d-linemen and lb'ers didn't recognize the screen being set up when o-line just released. I agree they need more elite DT's, that's why they have 5 committed right now and jacobian that they are after.

I thought I was the only person that saw Texas' O line hold on every pass play ! They grabbed jersey and held on for dear life. Go back folks and watch the game in slo mo and tell me how many holds you saw and how many were called !

Which is how we've historically done very well against QBs that were better runners than passers. We ate Johnny Manziel alive by making him throw from the pocket.

Ehlinger was just a better passer than we expected and our linebackers really missed some coverage assignments on Duvernay in the middle.

Arandas 3-4 isn’t like a Wade Phillips or Dom Capers style 3-4 that brings both OLBs a lot. He has a rush LB and a Drop LB on the outside so you’re not going to get those high sack totals and edge guys screaming off the edge. However with Divinity playing more outside than we first thought vs Texas it might not be a bad idea to use some of those type rushes. When Aranda blitzes he brings 6 men a lot of the time weakening our coverage. If he used Divinity and Chassion on more 5 man rushes it could be a big advantage for us. Even using a 5 man front look just to disguise our 4 man pressures at the college level could also help. I just think with the emergence of Clarke allowing Divinity to move back outside more it could be something beneficial that we didn’t initially plan on having. The one time I saw him use Divinity and Chassion on that double edge blitz was when Divinity got his sack late in the game and Chassion was right there too.

Not really true, in Arandas 3 years we’ve had 35 sacks 12 games in 2016 with Key recording 11. We had 39 sacks 13 games in 2017 with Gilmore leading 7.5 and last season we had 34 sacks but our leaders only had 5 a piece and we really didn’t have a true pass rushing individual. So for a guy who isn’t blitz heavy Aranda produces plenty QB sacks. By comparison the 2011 defense had 39 sacks in 14 games and the Dorsey led 2007 team had 37 sacks in 13 games. Aranda has had better seasons than both those defenses in terms of sacks.

I'm definitely against crying about refs, but after watching the game again, Chaisson got abused all night by their tackle. IDK how many more holding penalties weren't called. If every game is called like that one, I may have concerns but I don't think that was the case. Having an SEC officiating staff, it seemed as if they let a lot of stuff go to not seem biased. Another thing I wondered about was Delpit. I think we sent him one time the other night. He was our bread and butter last year off the edge. Just my take.

I saw it. but apparently they had this Cage Rush going on also.

I'm glad we won, though. Was an exciting game.

Despite what we saw last week, this is the deepest and most complete front 7 we’ve had in years. We just need a few young guys like Clark and Ika to step forward and become dependable rotation guys. Having real NTs could be a real difference for this unit in a few games.

These next three games should give the young guys plenty of reps.

When Bama's defense has a 3rd and long situation, they send the house on a blitz. We need to get aggressive like that. We allowed to many 3rd and long completions

When Texas had us 3rd and 17 they brought the house and you saw what burrow did to them.

This shite isn’t one size fits all. There is no “right” call. There’s just calls. Sometimes they work and sometimes the other team makes the play.

Once Rashard went down, the push on the line went down dramatically. We need him back healthy for sec play. He is one of the key pieces to the defense
