people always forget it doesn't matter what lsu lost. it matters what lsu lost compared to everyone else. comparing lsu to past lsu teams to ascertain how good they will be this year is meaningless.

Sam (RS soph) had only played in about 4 games in '10
- Mingo (RS soph) was a role player
- Bennie (RS So) and Brockers (RS So) were essentially first year starters
I thought the 2011 D-Line for most of the year was:

Kendrick Adams, Michael Brockers, Bennie Logan, Sam Montgomery

(not Mingo starting for the majority of the season)

It's worth mentioning that there was a revolving door to keep everybody fresh on the D-Line, so who started didn't matter as much as who your LT is, etc.

What I'm hearing is that we may be more solid in the middle, than most think, and weaker on the edges that we thought. That might be adequate with the speed at LB, to cover up some deficiencies on the edge, and an improved offense.

Freak and Ego are going to be fine, we already know that. As far as the DE's are concerned, we just wont know until we see them in games. Some players dominate practice and suck in games, and vice versa. We havent really see what the DE's can do yet in games.

But to go along with the OP, we shouldnt be worried about the DLine. The Dline will be fine as always. Im more worried about our secondary next year if you ask me.

Everyone keeps talking about the impact the freshmen will make, but it is extremely difficult for a true freshman to come in and be a good player immediately because of how physical the game is, especially in the SEC. I believe Freak, Ego, and Rasco are going to be really good, but that other D-end spot and depth are real question marks. But we don't rebuild, we reload so I'm confident

I too am nervous about our secondary. everytime i think of the ole miss game this past year and how our secondary played, simon with not playing on an offside's which results in a TD, the ole miss player stopping and go and getting it every time, including on 4rth down, montecrief killing us everywhere.

Rasco will be good. No matter how bad the other DE is, he can't be worse than Mingo.

Definitely concerned with this upcoming DL, particularly at DE. Hunter worries me a bit stacking up against the run. I know he's fast and I expect him to be a good pass rusher, but he's got some chicken legs and didn't look so physical in that first big cat drill.

I think Herron will factor in a ton up front, especially as a DE who can stack up against the run. He played DT in the all-american game and did really well. Even though he's a true freshman he's got the size and talent to help us on the edge. This is assuming he doesn't show up at 280 and immediately kicks inside. We'll see.

Probably equally good. It's depth where the big question mark is. Last year those four were our backups. Who are the four this year who are just as good as them? They might materialize, but until they do, we're just hoping.

I think the defense will be good enough in every game this season to win, it's the offense's ability to score in the red zone that i'm worried about and after that i would say the receivers catching balls that they failed at last season. The Chief will have the D ready!!!

I think if Hunter works out some of his technical kinks there is no reason this Dline couldnt be just as good as the last few years

That's a really good point. Bama and aTm lost some great OLinemen. LSU should be in good shape there.

I wonder what TCU has coming back from last year? That will be key for a young DLine.

Freak seems like a solid character guy. Glad to have a man like that leading this young defense.
