Ok, red dirt for brains. Why does ou base their rallying cry off a term for cheating? We’re all those championships won by cheating? Honestly would like to know, I worked at ou and no one could ever answer that question.

Originally, the term "Sooner" (after the fact) was credited to the land run participants that left early, before the cannons signaled the start of a particular land run.
During the same era, the term "Sooner" was adopted as a moniker for "progressive" settlers as the pioneers settled the territory into statehood.
Long story short, the term "Sooner" in the early 1900's was more of a general term for ALL land run participants, and not a derogatory term for people who left early.
*It's also the official nickname of a football program that's better, historically than LSU.
