anyone touch on this yet? Looked better. Hopefully they can reel him in a little more and get that slider going. Did anyone see PM telling him during the State game to "stop feeling sorry for himself"?

His stuff actually looked much better. He had movement on his fastball that we haven't seen in a long time. Movement is the only way he can be successful.

Got away with a balk too. I cannot believe they sent the runner back to first. Glad, but shocked

He's still nowhere close to his spots and letting the ball get up in the zone way too much

Has Ott s closed both games in tourney? Sorry to be so outta the loup. I am up north on business. Very excited Tigers are winning.
Love this board for info, thanks. I had to check score for a USC guy today here. He was impressed at all the info here!

I have to admire Coach Mainieri. He is bringing Matty Ott back. He will get him back to form as well as any coach could. Ott was invaluable last year, and PM wants that again. I think he's done a great job with Anthony Renaudo, too.

how so? You put the ball on several pitchers hands before Ott in the regionals at this point. If Ott can make another good outing or we are up by a lot in a game, then he should get another chance to improve back to his former self. If its a 1 run game late, no way do I want him on the mound until he has shown his head is back on straight

I've got to believe that the hitters in the SEC figured him out a little this year. If you're patient on his slider, then it will likely be out of the strike zone. An 84 MPH fastball with no movement is high school stuff. Although his did have movement last night.

That runner scored on the next pitch, so all's well that end's well for Vandy.

i disagree with this. He pitched enough last year and dominated against the best teams in the country at the end of the season. They had plenty to study off of him

his control has been off and he's been missing high in the zone which leads to a lot of runs.

Fair enough, but study/ film on a pitcher vs. game experience are different things.

I suspect there is more than one reason he's not gotten it done this season. All I know is that before he got into SEC play this season he was lights out. Once he got into the SEC, not so much.

Actually, he wasn't. He walked a lot early in the season but got away with it against inferior competition. The warning signs were there.

It caught up with him in the SEC and snowballed as he lost confidence.

He was reacting to the batter calling time out, although he should have chunked it anyway.

His problem has been his control. Last year he was able to hit corners of the plate (like Coleman). This year not so much. he falls behind in the count, and has to throw that fastball. That's the problem. When he got ahead of hitters tonight he had success, and when he didn't, they hit the ball hard.

Other than Ranaudo, Ross, and Bertucinni, can you really trust anyone else more than Ott? Those 3 guys aren't going to win a regional, someone else is going to have to pitch.

This.

You NEVER stop your pitch once you've gone into your motion with a runner on base. Matty got over big time on that one.
