We tend to remember the 3rd and 4th downs given up playing soft zone at the end of a game. The fact that we are so effective for 9/10 of the game just makes it all the more frustrating.

Actually there are 4 SEC teams in ahead of us. Auburn finished 29th, just nipping us out. I'm sure that in the proper context this stat has a value. But as evidence of how misleading or useless it can be , AUBURN just fired it's defensive co-ordinator.

Show me one D coordinator who has never had his defense lose a lead. Because apparently that's what the rantards are looking for in a new DC.

I don't think never is the standard.

we don't even do 50%.

Overall, our defense ranked 30th in lowest 3rd down conversion percentage.
btw, you accidentally forgot to filter out the OOC games (im betting you're one of the people who like to talk about "cupcakes" when it comes to our offensive stats) and when you do that, LSU was actually 39th

just behind Buffalo but ahead of Akron and Wyoming. 39th out of 127. here are the 3rd and Chavis stats (compared to number 1 overall):

2014 - 37.5 percent (25.8)
2013 - 41.8 percent (22.2)
2012 - 31.4 percent (25.6)
2011 - 33.1 percent (21.4 - it was bama)
2010 - 39.8 percent (19.8)

or maybe "4th and Chavis" would make you feel better. LSU was tied for 59th in that. here are those numbers:

2014 - 50.0 percent
2013 - 40.0 percent
2012 - 77.8 percent
2011 - 60.0 percent
2010 - 54.5 percent

Show us the 3rd down conversion rate for our opponents' offense in their last possession of the game when LSU is leading....

But let's look at some numbers just so we are clear. This is the 3rd down % conversions allowed on the defensive side.

TAMU - LSU

2014 40.0 - 36.4

2013 41.0 - 38.3

2012 32.2 - 31.9

2011 40.44 - 33.97

2010 35.87 - 34.66

Third and Chavis wasn't nearly as egregious as 20 DJ Welter starts at middle linebacker. That shite was a fireable offense.
