We really needed to get Cowan and Evans some time on the mound this weekend and after the first two games it was looking unlikely that they would both have time to pitch. I know ideally we would've gotten a big enough lead yesterday that we could let everyone pitch but obviously that didn't happen.

If we can win convincingly tonight with Evans Cowan and Fontenot all getting some good time on the mound and not having to use Eyanson we will be in much better shape for next weekend and beyond.

I didn’t see anything positive.

If we need to use Eyanson we will because if we don't win then there is no next weekend

There's no debate. Jay has already said this was part of his rationale for starting Eyanson on Friday. I'm just saying if we can get the other guys some work and win without using Eyanson then this may all end up being a positive

No it wasn’t

How so? Unless you expected us to lose last night it was getting unlikely from the moment Noot was announced as a starter.

We all knew Shores would be first out of the bullpen. With a close lead the plan was clearly going to be Noot, Shores, Cowan and save Evans for the if necessary game.

The only way they would've all pitched yesterday is if we had a big enough lead that we were willing to pull Cowan and put Evans in just to get some work.

Because both would have pitched if we had a lead, or were tied maybe even within a run, at any point after about the 3rd or 4th inning. Maybe you thought Noot was going 7 or 8 but I can guarantee you nobody in the LSU dugout expected it. Shores probably wouldn’t have been the first out of the pen either if he could have turned it over to one of the other two with a clean start to an inning.

My post and thought process assumes Evans and Cowan are healthy.
