Why do people get so salty about this?

As fans and former students it's not too otherworldly to speak in terms like that.

I'd say it's less about tying it to your own self worth and more about the emotional attachment to the team.

Like on a last second fg when your teams wins you jump up and say "Yeah , we beat those frickers!"

Fans are an extension of the team and I myself don't have a problem with this.

LSU nation is all one tbh.

people will find any angle to trash talk on the internet. people dont bitch about these things in the real world.

you know you have made a good point when some schmuck has nothing to grab onto other than your grammar on a message board.

I think the people that bitch about it are the ones who actually do act as though the team winning is part of their own accomplishments.

But their teams just suck arse.

Two weeks ago, a friend texted me and asked if I was having a good time in Florida (I was not in Florida). The previous week, I had mentioned to her that "we" were playing in The Swamp for "our" next game. She assumed I was there to watch it.

"Fan" is about identifying with.

my daughter was 5 or 6 when she looked up from playing on floor at me watching hoops on tv and said, " which one are we dad?".

It's one of the dumbest sports-related things to judge people on, just as bad as the folks who shame people for wearing a jersey to a sporting event.

Was wearing an Astros world series shirt the other day and my burrito artist at izzo's asked me if I was on the team. Yeah like the fat frick cajun asking for queso on his burrito plays professional baseball, dick.

I don't see the big deal. if youre passionate about something, refer to it how you want. WE won ww2. I didn't fight in it and im not a vet. fans sing "we are the champions" after a title. I always poke fun at myself: "they sucked against florida" but "we beat Georgia". lol

I think I used to say we but then I realized it was stupid because I didn't have to play anybody.

I never say "we" or "us" unless I've been on the team or coached it.

Some people are just smug assholes who will resort to arguing semantics when logic does doesn't work to their advantage.

Saying "we" doesn't sound stupid to me. When people ask me what teams I root for I say "my teams" are LSU, etc. etc.

Doesn't mean anything more than those are the teams I follow and root for.

The dumb thing to me is when someone starts a thread on here saying something along the lines of "stop looking ahead to Georgia, or Bama, lets get past Auburn or Mississippi State first."

Like we as fans shouldn't be able to discuss future games instead of just the very next game.

But I do find it interesting as to whether they are consistent when the team loses.

"We beat Georgia!"
"I can't believe they struggled to score against Florida."

LSU football matters because we think it does. Lots of teams in lots of sports that have great athletes and coaches but they lack the we to support them.

I don't say "we" but it doesnt bother me if others do though. As a life long fan but an alumni of another school (Troy and Golden Gate) I don't feel right using it. But in any case, "Geaux Tigers!".

I'll be the first to admit I use the two interchangeably. It really boils down to what rolls off the tongue better in a particular context.
