Man I just don’t trust this to be true anymore. Might have been a thing back in the day but I could totally see people running off strangers from their tailgate.

People spend insane amounts of money on these tailgates and I could picture them just not being cool with a random person mooching.

It is all about the approach. Don't walk up and start eating and asking for shite. I've had people walk up to my tailgate and ask for directions and then proceed to stick around drinking and eating for 2 hours. We like to hear the stories of the people visiting for the first time as much and they like to eat and drink. Last year, some lady from the opposing team (may have been Arky) came up to our tailgate asking to buy a bottle of water b/c her toddler was sweating his arse off. By the time she left, I think everyone in her group had a free cold beer or water b/c she was appreciative.

Rutgers is one of my alma maters and a daughter is an ND alum. By mathematical transitivity you two are no longer neutral. Y'all are now Tiger fans. Practice your "Geaux Tigers!" until you are hoarse.

You’re an idiot and you also sound like a selfish prick! I’ve never seen out of towners run off from a tailgate! LSU fans are notorious for “tiger Baiting” opposing fans and then welcoming them in for food and drinks, and that goes double for uncommitted visitors!

If you actually host a tailgate, which I highly doubt, i doubt if you have actual guests, just hostages. If it costs you so much to host that you hate welcoming folks in, quit!

Yes.

I think so. But it's kind of boring to tailgate in the "free lots" as they are a bit far from the stadium. It's likely to be just you and your brother sitting by yourselves in the middle of a field or parking lot with few people there.

The Ole Miss v. LSU game has already been announced as a "night game" with kickoff sometime between 5:00 - 7:00 (CT). That mid October home game (traditionally it's been vs. Florida most years) seems to often be the last gasp of summer humidity, so it should still be pretty warm.

If I were you, I'd get to campus at least 4 hours early. If you want to get there earlier, but not necessarily do the outdoor tailgating just yet, you can walk to Walk On's restaurant, which is about 3/4 of a mile from the Stadium. It's a sports bar/restaurant and should have tons of fans there.

Once you leave Walk On's, the shortest path to the stadium will take you through tons of tailgate parties all the the way to the stadium. Of course, the tailgating is not just located in one spot. It's widespread throughout the entire campus. You can eat at a restaurant if you'd like, but LSU fans take TREMENDOUS pride in their cooking skills. So I would skip eating at a restaurant and try to sample all of the local flavor. You will be able to find almost any food imaginable.

If you are dead set on tailgating/bbq your own setup then you need to get your but up early and set up at Parker Coliseum free lot at South Stadium and Highland. This is a high volume/high energy tailgate area. You should be able to get a spot there if you get there by 10-11 AM. You might be able to get in there later but your chances get slim after that. There is a big grassy tree shaded space on one side of the road and the free parking lot on the other.

The best thing about this spot is that it is close to the Stadium and easy contraflow out to Stanford Ave/I-10 after the game. This is a 10X better gameday env than the Free lots on River Road. But you need to get there early enough.

Thanks for all the replies. I’m glad we circled this game and made it out to Death Valley for this one. We had an awesome time. A lot of people gave me a shout out for wearing my Rutgers jersey and hat. I told a few I was driving south on the NJ Turnpike and next thing I somehow ended up in Baton Rouge. We were invited to a few great tailgates. Then the game was just top notch going ahead near end of Q4 and winning it in overtime!!! Good luck the rest of the way this season…I’ll be following from a distance.
