How many remember the teams of the 50's and the Chinese Bandits, the '60 Sugarbowl game with old Miss, etc?

my grandmother used to tell me stories about these days. She wasn't the biggest football fan but she said the excitement around baton rouge was huge and everywhere you went that's all people wanted to talk about. She used to go to the games with my grandfather. He would wear a suit and she would wear a nice evening dress. She thought it was a shame that games had become so casual, blamed the hippies

I do. I started going to games in '58. Family had just moved back to BR. Got spoiled quickly.

OM was a force back then. We beat hem during the reg season in 59, 7-3, on Cannon's famous Halloween Punt return. Rematch game was a 21-0 loss.( sound familiar).

Bandits were crowd favorites. Really third stringers who bought into the roll of mean n nasty gang tacklers.

No one tailgated, crowds were loud, and stayed to the end.

Oh, and who am I and how did I get here?

I know you are not serious, but:

Well, for one, I remember the LSU Teams of the 1950s--I knew Mel Branch in DeRidder (his Dad Dallas ran a store there). Billy Cannon was my boyhood hero.

Second, I have been using computers since around 1984, when I began my second masters degree. Before that, I used calculators. Prior to that, I actually used that long-lost skill of math.

Third, I remember George ("Gabby") Hayes, so at least two of us here are old enough to remember the first runs of Roy Rogers. (Gabby used "whippersnapper" quite a bit.

Fourth, I have a 1958 National Championship Team picture signed by Paul Dietzel I obtained by writing him in 1959 to get it.

My Dad was a student at LSU (graduated 1950) when I was born there in Baton Rouge.

So yes, there are those who remember.

Big Mel Branch, an original Chinese Bandit DE. Did well in the AFL.
I say big because he was one of the bigger players. He was about 6'3" and 210.

Actually, I did not live in Louisiana then, but am old enough to remember and was a fan. In the college football world, those LSU teams were famous nation wide.

I was a 14 yr old sitting on the 10 yard line (east side) on the night Cannon did his 89yd punt return - it was a fun time riding back to Mandeville - with my dad and my Ole Miss educated uncle - did not attend the rematch in the Sugar Bowl - however, the rematch with bama for the NCS reminded me a lot of the 60 Sugar Bowl.

As a 9 year old...my uncle took me to the 1959 Sugar Bowl....LSU vs Clemson.....it was cold that day and everyone dressed up ...men in ties and ladies dressed in church clothes.
