Just like Elleshoe, deride others' thinking outside the box, yet not making a suggestion of his own. Well here's another suggestion, phuck you and the horse you came in on!!!!!!

So you want to hire a guy who has never been a coach at any level of organized basketball
Rick Barry coached in a pro league. His team WON the championship of the league.

I was looking at Wikipedia today at work to find a reasonable candidate that has had sustained mid major success, but wouldn't necessarily ask for the payday Smart or Stevens would. I also preferred that they coached in the south at some point, and are relatively young.
Marshall coached a Winthrop (in the south), took them to the tourney A LOT, and is now successful in the MVC, which is a good league. And he's 49. Perfect guy.

the GBA or IBA or whatever doesn't fricking count son. His team probably would have gotten schooled by this years UK team. frick. No. to Rick Barry

marshall's teams are fun to watch. i was kind of surprised he didn't end up at tennessee last season but they got a good one in cuonzo nonetheless. def. my number 1 choice. sean miller was my top guy last time but i think he was gonna hold out for that better offer like he got with arizona.

i remember my top 4 being miller, grant, ford, and bennett. 3 out of those 4 look pretty good IMO FWIW RBI

I didn't mean to dog on your choice of Livingston by the way but I feel like we can do so much better than a guy just cutting his teeth in coaching

I've been talking with a friend of mine, we came up with a couple of dark horses who could be decent and good up and comers:
Rick Byrd (Belmont)
John Grose (U of Ohio)
Obviously they wouldn't be my top choice, but I feel like they could both be solid up and coming coaches for us.

I don't mind Rick Byrd. I admittedly don't know much about Grose.

Belmont is impressive.

Steve Fischer- SDSU
Lon Kruger- UNLV
Fran Dunphy- Temple
ETA: I really like the Avery Johnson suggestion. He would be a hit with all of the Nola talent we've missed on.

It's cool brah. Just frustrated right now with the current state of the program. TJ really coulda used a guy from La on his staff and he said thanks, but no thanks to RL. At this point I don't think that RL could possibly do any worse.
FTR I wanna be clear that I don't hate TJ. I believe him to be an upstanding guy. He runs a clean program. Both good things. BUT he can't recruit worth a damn, and he wouldn't know offensive BB if it grew out of his forehead and he had to stare at it in his mirror while he shaved every morning.

I didn't either, and his resume isn't long, but he's done a good job at Ohio in just 3 years. He's made the NCAA and beat Georgetown in year two. This year he's got them at 23-7, but they probably won't make the NCAA because they are behind Akron in the MAC.

I'd like RL as an assistant. Just not a head guy quite yet.
