Sankey threatened to kick LSU out of the conference for saying they were going to sign 2 guys who signed professional contracts (both were cut before ever playing in a pro game). Here is a guy who not only signed a contract, but also played professional basketball being cleared like it’s no big deal. If you don’t see the double standard there, it’s because you don’t want to because it’s your team.

Cal never had anything linked to him directly. As a Memphis fan as well, I know his act pretty well. Yes he’s a scumbag, but he’s a SMART scumbag.
Cal always had bagmen and multiple degrees of separation from whatever was going on. He got UMass put on probation, but nothing was pinned to him. They dug for a sold year at Memphis and all they could come up with was L2 and 3 crap over Rose’s brother not reimbursing travel. But as a frick you to Memphis after Cal was already gone, they reversed their eligibility decision on Rose and vacated all of those wins. It was chickenshit, but it was all they could scrape together.
Wade’s issue was that he did too much of his own dirty work. Guys like Cal and Self skate because they don’t leave a trail and know how to play the game. It’s all pretty moot now that the paying is out in the open, but the reps still hang around.

Two of the schools he worked at had decades long tradition of entrenched systems of paying players that allowed the coach plausible deniability, I wouldn't give him too much credit for smarts at Kentucky and Memphis - plus he hitched his wagon to Worldwide Wes which one can debate how smart that was.

LSU for basketball is so, so far away from what Kentucky was and what Memphis was it's not the least bit comparable.
As for Self, he sent text messages implicating him in a 6-figure offer and had as many Level 1 accusations as LSU did - I don't call that knowing how to play the game, I call it being in the good ole boys club long enough where you can do the same or worse than WW and skate. He got a 4 game suspension and pretty much no one ever mentions his transgressions, like they never happened.
