I haven't waded through the entire thread, but I believe that one of the biggest problems is that once Les goes Lee he knows he can't go back. What I see from JJ's body language on the field and sideline, and in interviews is an overly sensitive young man that is not very mature, and I don't see him getting off the mat that we saw Lee get up off of. It doesn't appear that he has the same sort of constitution. The old Skip Bertman "flush it" approach, that Lee obviously has(short term and long term), doesn't seem like it is in JJ's makeup and Miles probably knows that yanking him would leave him pouting in the base case, and maybe mentally done. So that might be why he is moving so cautiously. Again, what I hear from folks close to LM is that he loves how JL is looking in practice, but isn't sure how he will react in-game. Clearly JJ is not setting the world on fire, but he might not be ready to completely abandon him. Surely he has to be closer after these first two games.

How loud would Tiger Stadium get if #12 ran out on the first offensive series, drove the length of the field with good passing and ending in a td, and then the defense comes out and holds MSU 3 and out?
If that happens, look out!

If that happens, look out!

Jefferson, Lee, etc..
JJ is not from Florida.

All practice reports say that JJ has looked better than Lee in practice since the fall training camp started.
Unless you are getting different info than I am getting.
Not what I heard. I heard, from multiple sources (although with the 2 degrees of separation in BR, it could always have the same origin) is that JJ "still doesn't get it", and that JL is looking like a certain aged QB that plays in NFL purple. In practice. I don't think you, or me, or the coaches, know how JL will react in the game. Therein lies the caution. I would call it a conundrum, but there is no telling how badly Les would mangle that word.

As a counterpoint, how loud would Tiger Stadium get if #12 comes out and throws a pick 6?

He was well enough to cheer with his teammates for a few minutes. . .I think you cracked the case, Mr. Holmes.
just going by what I saw at the game, and how his physical energy level wasn't typical of someone who is sick. Again, I don't doubt the IV, doesn't mean he was "ill".

I guess everyone forgot how bad Jarrett Lee played during the Alabama and LA.Tech games last year. He really stunk up the field relieving an injured JJ.
Alabama game:
Lee was 4 of 10 for 44 yards with an interception on a fourth-down play at the end, and the Tigers were held to 95 yards rushing.
LA Tech game:
Lee, filling in for Jordan Jefferson, who has an injured right ankle, was 7-of-22 for 105 yards and a touchdown, a 38-yard catch-and-run to Brandon LaFell.
What about this year?

Also this is most puzzling considering everyone seems to think LSU produces more offense with Jarrett Lee:
Overall, La Tech ran 84 plays for 322 yards to LSU's 52 for 246 and had a 13-minute advantage in time of possession.
Granted Les Miles probably has nightmares thinking about the 2008 season of pick 6's so he rather have LSU remain vanilla to avoid another catrastrophe on the football field.
What about this year?

I love construction! I like to build things! But, after repeatedly hitting my finger with a hammer, I bought a nail gun. Now, I really enjoy construction again. Just goes to show you, sometimes you just have to change tools to get the job done. Childish, I know. I want to enjoy Saturday nites again. The present situation at QB prevents that, even with an ugly win.

Your post assumes that LSU has a nail gun available. If the alternative is a nail gun, that's great. Let's use a nail gun.
However, what would you do if the facts tended to suggest that the alternative is a wrench?
You're probably better off sticking with a hammer.
Even if it means that your wins lack aesthetic appeal.

maybe just maybe this "wrench" has matured into a more suitable tool. arent you at least curious to find out ?

Watching football this last Saturday wasn't fun to watch.

I have a serious question. If according to second hand knowledge JL is looking like Brett Farve in practice, why in the world is he not playing??? It boggles me to think that you compare someone of his stature and not play him. I don't care how fragile someones emotions are. Also who gives a crap about how it translates into games if he is being compared put him out there if he falters we have good ole JJ.

The coaches see Lee and Jefferson in practice every day. Lee must not be standing out very much, if at all.
I have always said that Lee should get at least one possession per game.

brett favre is how lee played in 2008
pure gunslinger who trusts his arm too much and doesn't fully read defenses. tries to wing it and win the game with every throw
this can be great, and this can be horrible
i think the favre comparisons are still from lee's play in 2008

Isn't that about DC Jefferson who went to Rutgers and is now a TE?
JJ wasn't offered until November that year, I think.

One point to consider, probably considered already is this massive thread, is that we have three big-time playmakers who are essentially useless as receivers right now.
We have to find a way to get the ball to RR, TT and RS via the pass and we need to be able to stretch the field.
Saban will blitz us to death if we can only rely on the run and short passes to move the ball. To loosen up a great defense, we must be able to stretch the field.
Lee, although not great, does give us that ability. I think if Lee can get over his turnover issue, he could function in a similar fashion to John Parker Wilson at Bama two years ago...only Lee has a better arm. Remember, Bama went undefeated in the regular season that year with a great defense, strong running game and manager of a QB who could stretch the field two or three times per game.
We don't need Elway, but we do need someone who can loosen the defense up and allow us to utilize the amazing talent we have as wideouts. There is an whole dimension to this team, perhaps the best dimension, that is almost completely unexplored because we cannot pass down the field.
this is what I've been saying for two years...
I bet Lafell is pissed...

I don't believe Les is being fair to Lee after throwing Jarrett to the wolves as a redshirt freshman. Why doesn't Les give him a fair shoot at the QB spot. GO JARRETT
