really? Explain how it is possible to win games despite the QB AND coaching staff.
Rewatch the Vandy game. I assure you LM and the QB were not helping us to victory.

JJ is a pro-style QB...not a running QB like RP was.
Maybe someone should fill the coaching staff in on that

According to many on this board...LM calling plays in the 2nd half helped with the offense. What about the defensive line, the secondary, special teams, the running game....

You really aren't too bright. We were discussing how you win IN SPITE of bad coaching and QB play.
Those phases of the game were good, playcalling and QB play not so much....hence why you win in spite of them

Well I disagree on Jefferson. He has had all off season to improve and he has not. It is clear that he is not a good college quarterback. He can not lead this team to where we want to be. Competing for SEC championship. I would start Jefferson against State and bring Lee off the bench if we do not move the ball on the first two possesions. If Lee can show that he is as good as Jefferson which is not much. Then start him against west viginia. If he fails to prove he is the better of the two then go back to Jefferson. Sitting Jefferson will do him some good. It sure can't hurt him. His play is pathetic at this time. I also believe that Lee's acuracy down the feild will open up the running game more.

LSU has a pretty dominant defense.
UNC and Vandy combined for a grand total of 89 yards rushing. That is in the realm of rushing defense dominance.
LSU has some of the best defensive backs in the country. Despite the UNC game stats, I consider our DBs in the realm of passing defense dominance. Moreover, UNC was the first game, and in the second game, LSU only gave up 70 yards passing.
With a dominant defense, all you need is a running game (which LSU certainly appears to have) and a QB who will not make big mistakes (turnovers).
The conventional and time-tested wisdom is that with a dominant defense and excellent running game, you do not go to the high risk / high reward alternative.
Jefferson is not a turnover problem. The Vandy game was an aberration for Jefferson. It was his worst game. Therefore, I have no problem with starting Jefferson until either Lee proves he is better in practice or in games, or Jefferson proves he is a bigger liability than Lee.
If I were the head coach, I would start Jefferson and play Lee for at least one possession or more per game. I certainly hope that Lee plays his arse off when he plays. I hope that Jefferson and/or Lee prove that they are capable of taking LSU to a championship.

This same argument was coming up last year after the Florida game and I was a huge proponent of getting Lee some playing time just to see how he and the team reacted (I am this year too...what do we have to lose).
However, the Bama and LaTech games pretty much shut up the talk of Lee being the better alternative. I have a feeling the same may be true again this year...but you never know until you try.
I think meaningful chances to run the offense in the second and third quarters would be very beneficial for the team (and the fanbase for that matter).
I think that Lee gets in within the first two quarters this week and probably will get in within the third quarter as well. I don't look for him to start the WV game, but if he proves his salt, I could see him starting by the UF game.

It's interesting that Lee was asked to really sling the ball due to the fact that the D sucked. He did move the ball even if he cost us dearly with the pick 6's.
Let the guy play some, the fact that the opposing coaches know he can pass will help open up the running game. If he throws safe stuff like JJ then he's going to look like a hero.

The times article on Jefferson this morning spells real trouble .... the kid has lost all of his confidence...
The following quote says it all.
"I would just hope the fans will really be realistic. I'm a college player. I'm still working, still learning. I'm still trying to do my best that I can to help this team improve. I'm doing everything I need to do every week in practice, every day in practice just to improve us. I would hope they would keep faith in me and still have (give me) ... time to wait for me to help the offense."
I predict Lee will be starting the second half against Miss State.
I hate that JJ has regressed like this...hope that Lee can step up.

-doesn't regularly turn the ball over
-accurate within 15 yards (bad game against Vandy)
-ability to scramble
IMO (just my opinion) the upside in JJ is higher than Lee. I've seen JJ have good, even great games. I don't remember the last time Lee had one.

the original post that i responded to said we were winning in spite of the QB and coaches....as in plural. Which i took to mean the entire coaching staff.

There's nothing wrong with a Hodson/Guidry look. Let JJ have a series off to look at what's going on. JL NEEDS some meaningful snaps we will need him before this season is over.

How do the opposing coaches know that Lee can pass?
Are they psychic?
Because Lee has not shown in game situations that he can pass better than Jefferson.
Jefferson had a 40% completion rate against Vandy. That's pretty damn bad. However, it's also his worst game; it the second game of the season, and it was on the road.
Lee has had FIVE outings when he completed 40% or less. And that was AFTER he started in five games.
Lee 8/20 (40%) 99 5.0 1 1 [2008 Tulane (Home)]
Lee 13/34 (38%) 181 5.3 1 4 [2008 Alabama (Home)]
Lee 4/12 (33%) 49 4.1 0 1 [2008 Ole Miss (Home)]
Lee 7/22 (32%) 105 4.8 1 0 [2009 La Tech (Home)]
Lee 4/10 (40%) 44 4.4 0 1 [2009 Alabama]

Here is my simple take on the QB's: Les got unlucky when we didn't go up 37-10 on UNC. If we had done that, Lee gets some reps in that game, which benefits him and the team.
Fast forward to last Saturday...while Jefferson stunk, Lee made ONE pass attempt. To anoint him starter after one pass attempt is silly.
If Jefferson stinks it up again against Miss State, then I think Les will have no choice but to give Lee a shot. But until that happens, Jefferson is our man. Hopefully, he steps up his game.
