If you look at the way recruiting has gone i believe it was. We had some weaknesses on the o-line and at QB due to attrition. Add in the Malveto disaster and that made 08/09 two disappointing years. questions still remain at QB obviously but i believe the OL will be much improved this year.

Are these coaching related? Yes, yes they are. I am not a Miles hater, but the problems you have seen the last two years are clearly in the hands of the administrator.

Complete lack of focus/purpose on the field.
This is why I am not happy with the present coaching situation. It really became evident in 2007, esp. versus UK and Arky. It got worse on D in 2008, then skipped over to Offense in 2009. How will this manifest in 2010?

i'm not saying they're not but attrition affects every program. hindsight is 20/20 when it comes to recruiting in this respect and instead of being spread out among the team it really hit the OL hard these years.

Malveto - absolutely horrible decision by miles. i don't know who else was out there but this one lies squarely at his feet. he didn't let it fester and they were gone and replaced by chavis which was a significant upgrade. bad hires happen to even the best of coaches and how you respond is important and while a horrible decision it was corrected as quickly as possible. (rantards wanted them fired mid-season but i just don't believe that's a feasible solution)

QB? - questions remain in that i don't know how they will perform in 2010. if they are highly improved then that's a good job by miles.

I haven't read all this thread, but that's what pisses me off so much about the Miles haters--their complete lack of objectivity and reasoning. They build all these straw-man arguments that are so easy to tear down, and then pat themselves on the back for "showing" all us Miles lovers.

Maybe you should read more and type less. Your supposed ease in tearing down an argument about a person that has clearly not preformed over a long period of time through far fetched hopes or delusions is bullshite. It stinks of desperation and is basically laughable.

Again, I have never hated the man, but I do not think he is doing a adequate job in a position that demands more than just being adequate.

By the way, it takes more than a buffoon being paid entirely too much for far too little to make me contemplate suicide, so I will wait to be hit by a bus or something like it.

It's truly sad.

what pisses me off so much about the Miles haters--their complete lack of objectivity and reasoning. They build all these straw-man arguments that are so easy to tear down, and then pat themselves on the back for "showing" all us Miles lovers. For example, they tend to take the giant leap that liking Miles, supporting him, not thinking he's the worst coach in the world somehow equals LOVING him, thinking he's perfect, can do no wrong, and is the BEST coach in the world.

No. Not even the most deluded Miles apologists are that far gone. Even his biggest supporters (except the true loonies like Sammich, Choctaw and a couple of others) know that he's not an elite, top-5 coach. What is troubling is that even though they KNOW he's not at that level, they still think we should keep paying him an elite, top-5 salary and letting him steer our program into 2nd-tier status.
quote:

Another thing they tend to do is assume that appreciating what Miles has done means you think he's better than Saban.

Ask Sammich and Choctaw if they think Miles is better than Saban. They both quite frequently say they do.
quote:

Sammich is the only person I've ever seen on this site or in real life who actually believes that Miles is a better coach than Saban. The only one.

And Choctaw. And at least two or three others whose names escape me at the moment. And that's just in the last two or three days.
quote:

And I'm not even sure he really believes that.

I'm 99% certain that none of Miles' supporters really believe that he is even a very good, let alone great, coach. I also don't think there is one single person alive on the planet, not even Miles himself, who, if his life depended on being right, would predict that Miles will ever win another SEC or national title at LSU.
quote:

I love Saban(though you might not know it on here because I love LSU infinitely more). I think he's the best coach in CFB right now, and probably one of the better ones of all time. However, he is not available. So, should we all just fricking kill ourselves? You first.

No, it's the Miles supporters who think we should just give up and settle for a mediocre coach permanently because Saban's not available. Miles' critics are the ones saying that there are OTHER great coaches out there waiting to be found and that we DON'T have to accept permanent second-tier status just because one great coach left five years ago.

You have missed the boat 180 degrees on this one, Carl.

you were also "99% certain" when you said two years ago that Miles was the best coach in the SEC

You can be pissed off and question the coach and still support him afterwards.

I know this concept is really hard for some of you to wrap you heads around.

Can't be 100% on the coach. Players deserve responsibility as well.

Have to include rtgr in that number. You know the guy that always calls people "sonnyboy". He has proudly affirmed his belief that Miles > Saban.

"Thanks for telling us how it is with LSU Hot Carl & TD.com. We see LSU fans like you, not supporting the Team or your own Coach. You call your own players names. That's not cool, it's a bad scene at LSU, man. Bama fans don't do that. And like you said, Sammich is the only one who thinks Miles is better than Saban. Where would you go to College? The Best Coach in the SEC or a Coach who according to ya'll, can't even tie his own shoes? Thanks for the support, we know ya'll will understand why we're wearing Crimson next year. We've got to look out for what's Best for us. Good luck with the new Coach, whoever that is. Muschamp? Tuberville? Del Rio? Petersen? Pelini? When they ask us, we'll talk about where we feel comfortable & the best fit and stuff like that. The pay sites ask us the same dumb questions, that we all laugh at later. But it's all good. When you get a chance to play for the Best you take it. No hard feelings...and Roll Tide!! "

Agree except I have hopes that Les can yet become a good coach.

Yet???

If one of the most successful, overall results wise, coaches in LSU history can't even reach the "good coach" level, I fear we have become spoiled beyond recovery.
