Official BCS standings listed

Official BCS Standing

1. Texas
2. Bama
3. PSU
4. OU
5. USC
6. Ok State
13. LSU

I don't take much stock in current BCS standings because they are only a snapshot and don't show teams potential. I am not really worried about LSU's ranking since the meat of our schedule is yet to come (UGA, BAMA, SECCG).

LSU needs to win out and have Penn State drop a game. I am going to assume the Big12 champ (even at one loss) gets in over LSU (not a definite, but a good assumption if its Texas or OU). That still leaves USC. I figured LSU had a mulligan but wasn't accounting for a 30 point loss. If LSU wins out, gives Bama their only loss, and beats 1-loss Florida I think they probably go over 1-loss USC. But that's the key...avenge their loss over Florida and hope UF comes in that game #1 or #2 in the BCS. Of course, USC might lose to Stanford or something and take care of that problem anyway. I do not believe that 1-loss Ohio State would go over LSU at this point (nor Utah or Boise St)

Speaking of USC I still find them the most interesting case and have probably been overly hard on them (I guess I just don't think a team that finishes with 1 loss and only has 1 ranked team on its schedule deserves a shot at a NC). Their computer score is starting to have a bit more potential than a few weeks ago (Virginia is looking better, OSU looks strong, and ND could finish well also). But USC's computer score largely hinges on Ohio State. If they crash and finish 9-3 along with Cal/Oregon at 8-4 and ND at 7-5....look for USC's computer score to be abysmal and to trump any love in the human polls. Basically, I think Texas,OU, Florida, UGA at one loss and conference champs all would go over USC; LSU, Bama, TT, Ok State could beat out USC with some help. I no longer believe any team from the Big10 at 1-loss goes over USC.

I also find Utah intriguing. The MWC is strong (6-1) over the Pac10 and Utah beat Oregon State (USC's only loss). But Utah's SOS is still looking bleak as Michigan is terrible and that BYU game lost its luster. But I think Utah could finish higher than USC in most/all computers making that an interesting race.

--------------------------------------------------
I have been publishing my Colley Matrix "Future Poll" which is one of the computer polls in the BCS and I assume the higher ranked team wins every game (except LSU who I assume wins out for fun). THIS IS NOT THE BCS STANDINGS...but it gives insight on how the computers may affect the final bcs standings:

1 Texas 13-0 1.034242
2 Pittsburgh 11-1 0.922618
3 Penn State 12-0 0.911732
4 LSU 12-1 0.904323
5 Florida 11-2 0.896641
6 Southern Cal 11-1 0.882281
7 Texas Tech 11-1 0.881696
8 Va Tech 11-2 0.878972
9 Utah 11-0 0.873242
10 Oklahoma 10-2 0.866890
11 USF 11-1 0.866017
12 Boise St 12-0 0.856700
13 Ohio State 10-2 0.854608
14 Alabama 11-1 0.842785
15 Georgia Tech 10-2 0.830074
16 Georgia 9-3 0.824517

NOTES:

1. Some of these rankings are quite close. Even A few small upsets could drastically change how this looks

2. USC's ranking is dependent on OSU. If they finish 11-1, USC is in excellent shape. If they finish 9-3, they are screwed.

3. Several 2-loss SEC and Big12 teams could finish above some major 1-loss teams (i.e. USC)

4. Pittsburgh continues to annoy me. They need to lose.

5. I said Utah could finish above USC in most/all computers. I still think they can despite these results which show USC and Utah with a very close rating

That just doesn't mean anything. First of all, the Big12 and SEC are gonna start beating each other up. Second, we are horrible in the computers because we haven't beat anyone yet. That all changes when we play 3 top 10 teams

I think 9-3 with a Cap One would be respectable for this team. SEC west title would be an over achievement. NCG is totally out of the question. Lets be realistic here.

How realistic was it to talk about a NC after we lost our second game to Arkansas?

We have five home games remaining with the lone road game being at Arkansas. I think you're being a bit more pessimistic than realistic.

It will take a larger, much larger miracle this year. There will be no 2 loss teams in the NCG this year, and every team ahead of LSU would have to lose two for the Tigs to get in. Thats with LSU running the table. Entertain the fancy if you choose.......I am taking it game by game with a prayer of the SEC west title. NCG material next year, hopefully.

LSUMatt- what do we have to be in order to get an at large berth?
Is it the Top 8 or Top 12?

Here is what I am thinking could happen- we finish out 10-2, but don't go to the SEC Title Game. Bama loses to UF. That would leave us open to a possible at large berth, correct?

This was said last year after the regular season had ended, and we are barely half way through right now.

We only have 1-loss. Hell, if we win out and PSU and USC both lose we are almost guaranteed in. That's a lot more realistic than getting in with 2 losses.

Top 14. That won't be a problem at 10-2. But there may be another SEC team (like UGA/UF) that is also desirable and the BCS can only take 2 SEC teams total

You have great insight and proved it during last year's quagmire. Thank you and please continue.
