quote:

we've beat upon a couple of crap teams in the aftermath of an emotional loss to the top ranked team which is a game we should have won.

that we were even in a position to possibly beat the #1 team in the country says a lot and that we bounced back from a hard loss like that to demolish two, as you say, "crap teams", also demonstrates quality coaching. It would have been easy to shite the bed against those two teams after what could have been a demoralizing loss to Oklahoma. Instead we came out and stomped them.

biggest two factors are ben asserting himself early and blakeney coming on

Even you would have to admit Jones development of these two players over the course of the season has been phenominal, especially as of late. The way he is bringing out some toughness in a soft cupcake like Simmons and the way he benched Blakeney in order to get his head right shows an keen instinctive feel for his players.

I know when people hate when this is said but I watched 2 other games yesterday, a&M vs Sc and Vandy vs ole Miss. Each team in each game took terrible shots, each team made god awful passes through each game and awful decisions. SC attempted to blow their 9 point lead in 80 seconds then A&M ended the game on two god awful possessions. Vandy went on a 6 minute stretch of awful shooting in the last 3/4 of the game while ole Miss couldn't capitalize turning it over on almost every possession for 4 mins.

Hell my buddy whose a UNC fan was complaining on how undisciplined UNC was. It's the way the college game is played now. As much as you hate to see us make these mistakes, which they improved on, many teams do the same thing.

All I know is Jones and Simmons looked a lot better against Oklahoma than Miles and Fournette did against Bama.

I think one thing he hasn't been given credit for is that he has a good group of assistant coaches this year. Suhr, Pinkins, Patrick and even Ronald Dupree have helped bring this team together. I am not one of these guys that claims to have inside information. I am just going by what I see in the game and the interaction on the bench during the game. Unlike previous years the assistants are talking to players during the timeouts and pointing out things they need to do.

If they are that active during the game then I am sure they must really be active during practices. I think that has added to how well prepared and coached this group is and the improvement they have shown.

But let's blow up a few of the falsehoods shall we. Jones does punish players if they aren't doing what he wants. Witness Quarterman and Blakeney's benching and him pulling guys out of the game after they make a foolish play.

He is emotional on the bench and does go after refs. Is he a Bruce Pearl or a Frank Martin? NO, and thank the heavens for that.

He has let Simmons down and doesn't use him effectively. This one may have been true in the early part of the season but not now. It would have been hard for any coach to design an offense for Simmons. Being a positionless player may impress all the media but it creates problems for a coach as to how to utilize him.
And a large part of the problem with how the offense worked was the guards not making shots. Since the return of Hornsby, the emergence of Blakeney and the somewhat settling down of Quarterman that is no longer the case and all of a sudden the offense looks solid.
