Observations on LSU offense

In the Florida game, LSU had twelve scoring opportunities resulting in:
2 interceptions
1 fumble
2 turnovers on downs
3 three and outs
10 drives under 3 minutes
14 points off turnovers
Against Georgia, LSU had fifteen scoring opportunities resulting in:
3 interceptions
1 turnover on downs
4 three and outs
12 drives under lasting 3 minutes
17 points off turnovers
In each game, LSU had eight drives that ended in an offensive "three and out", turnover on downs or interception/fumble. To put it into perspective, in the two losses, LSU is statistically as bad as UL-Monroe which has had 34.4% of its drives ending in "three and outs," the highest percentage in college football.
In addition, LSU's 3rd down efficiency was very poor against FL and GA.
Last year, LSU threw 13 INTS for 137 yards with none returned for TDs. This year, we already have 10 INTs for 271 yds with 4 returned for TDs (actually should be 5 TDS because USC returned one inside the 10YD line).
The offensive problems result from having to start a redshirt freshman QB who is not ready to play against the better SEC teams. The biggest difference between LSU and GA is at QB, Stafford versus Lee. Stafford is a veteran who protected the ball and gave gave his playmakers the oppoortunity to make plays. Were it not for the 3 INTs, I firmly believe LSU beats GA, and LSU would be in control of its destiny in the SEC at 6-1.
The weaknesses in LSU's defense were exposed by Florida and exploited by Georgia, both having very good offenses with explosive playmakers. LSU's opponents will continue to attempt to exploit these weaknesses. It is clear that LSU's defense is not good enough to carry this team. When you combine poor defensive play with turnovers and inability to control the ball on offense, LSU is susceptible to being blown out.
LSU simply needs to play better offensively in order to beat the better teams on its schedule (i.e., Alabama and Ole Miss). In particular, it is crucial that the QB needs to play smart, LSU must control the ball in sustained drives and commit no costly turnovers.

Why not play better on defense, thus eliminating the pressure on a young QB to score 40+ points?
I expect to win when we score 38.
