For 4 years Les Miles has been the coach at LSU and he has won. Has a SECC & a NC to show for it. He has recruited well. But all the while, many.. me included have doubted him. I'm just wondering if those of you who have supported Miles deep down had reservations but.. you support him because... well.. he has won. Didn't matter if the win wasn't pretty, and many of them weren't, he won and that's the bottom line.

I have supported him, and defended him whenever someone says he shouldn't be here, but I am starting to doubt his coaching ability.

No doubt winning is what has kept me a Miles fan. That's pretty normal.

i feel exactly the same way about miles as i did last year and the year before

he is a very good recruiter and a good coach, but he will only be as good as his coordinators

he does not personally have the ability offensively or defensively to overcome poor coordinating

Didn't matter that beneath the surface of many of the wins there was a "boy, we got lucky" thought?

I've supported him because he has won. But this year has shown that he is an average coach at best without good coordinators. The thing I loved about Saban was that even if you didn't have a great DC his defense would still be good. He found good DC's though.

We will find out how good he is next year. I think if he goes the safe route and hires a proven D cood all will be fine in Tigertown. Now, if he were to keep the co-cood or take a risk on the next cood my opinion will definitely change.

Winning isnt enough? It has to be pretty? Football isn't a beauty pageant. I am not ready to throw Miles to the wolves after one bad season. We had a great 4 year stretch and we've had a terrible year.

It is Les's job to win and win he has for the previous 3 years. It is amazing to me that at the end of the first year the doubters said, the peach bowl?!!? We should fire him for not winning the SEC Championship. Second year it was: sure we are in the Sugar Bowl, but he still hasn't won us a Championship (keep in mind this is year two). In year three he won us a freakin national championship and an SEC championship and the doubters said: We didnt deserve to play for the national championship with two losses (never any mention of who was more deserving)
Year four was a back to earth year but I beleive that LSU will be back. I think Les will do what he needs to (fire CoDC, work on Decipline, work on QB play). I think we are in the SEC championship game next year and maybe back in the BCS picture. I dont expect us to have another national championship until it gets back to New Orleans in 3 more years.

I have and still support Les. Les was the guy that had the balls to go for it on 4th down and call the fakes etc. We can't forget that.

However, if he fails to act on the DC I will be hard pressed to back that.

Say what you want about Lee, Hatch, JJ, the line etc. We had more than enough talent to win 60% of the games we lost.

It's not like we a bad team with no talent, we're a talented team that doesn't know what to do. Missed tackles and lack of execution comes from bad practice habits.

First the good news:

I feel for the first time in a long time that we have a legitimate quarterback. You have got to expect some mistakes in this situation, but I think Jefferson did very well for a freshman in his first SEC start, especially on the road. This guy has great potential.

Maybe some wavering recruits will believe that LSU is going to have a quarterback next year after all. If I were a recruit, that would be important to me.

Finally, the defensive situation is so bad that it is hard to imagine that Miles is not going to make some major changes.

As for the bad news:

This is the worst defensive team I have seen in Purple and Gold.

The defense is actually getting worse as the season goes on. It is as if someone is undoing what the players might have learned from a previous coach.

The problems on defense appear to involve inability to make tackles and to cover pass receivers. Wow! Aren't those the most basic fundamentals?

Either we have greatly overestimated the quality of our talent, or else there is something seriously wrong with the coaching. I can't blame all of this on bad luck or the referees.

This is the first year since all of Saban's recruits are gone. I wasn't worried about that at the beginning of the season, but now I am concerned.

I really like Les Miles, but I will have some serious doubts if he doesn't address these problems. I think he should have gotten Jefferson into the lineup earlier this season, but we can all debate that. The decision to go with his defensive co-coordinators is not up for debate. This was a big mistake.

Can you imagine what Colt McCoy would have done to the Tiger defense yesterday? Thank goodness we do not qualify for a major bowl game because we would be humiliated against a quality team at this point.

It is coincidental that LSU hits bottom the year after Pelini leaves.

Here it is for me in a nutshell. Miles benefited from the stock pile of talent left to him by Saban. The players under Saban still had a sense of discipline instilled in them. This year is the last year of the Saban recruits. What we are seeing is the future or Milesball. I think Miles is a great recruiter but not a great coach. I am afraid that the LSU program will be set back by the lack of coaching and discipline that is apparent on the team now.

Coach Miles fire everyone and start fresh with a new QB. Find the best DC money can buy and pay the nman. Otherwise we are bound for a future of mediocraty and sub par bowl games.IMO

I have always doubted the coaching ability, but loyalty is a trait that most colleges in the nation realize that they do NOT have.

Interesting thing is I disagreed with many of those calls. They usually don't work.

Coaches are supposed to put their team in the best position to win the game. Les didn't do that last year with some of those calls. Those calls worked out, but they usually wouldn't. This year, the odds are catching up with him.

As I have said before, even last year, I thought he made more than a couple questionable calls. I do not think he is a great game day coach.

As far as develping talent goes, as I said in a previous post, it is just too early to tell. Did the Saban recruits keep things straight last year? Unlikely but possible. Is this year a hiccup or more of a sign to things to come? It is just too early to tell.

Recruiting is also to early to tell. With LSUs facilities and previous winning tradition, anyone can recruit. Lets see if Les keeps up the recruiting. Lets hope we don't need to see if he can recruit with a few losing seasons!

Who? Exactly what hot bitches do you think we could attract if we ran off Les? What coach wants to come where the fans are ready to castrate a coach that won a BCS championship one year ago? I challenge all you negatigers to tell me, definitively, who we would go out and get to come here to these expectations? Butch Davis? In a great part of the country for his family and recruiting into, and their fans will be thrilled with the same bowl game we are yacking over. RR? Yeah, he lit it up at Michigan this year. Kurt Ferentz? Someone stepping up from a smaller program or a coordinator promotion? An NFL coach, since that has worked so well for the leprechauns? Just tell me who would be an upgrade?

Now, I could not agree more on the twin towers of stupidity needing to go. I think Crowton is money, but the defensive side is a trainwreck. Hire a top DC, let him bring his guys, and we will turn it around-I think the players are there.

Lesticles is no more... we were uninspired, scared, playing not to lose most of this season IMHO.

Bring back Lesticles and the Mad Hatter --- we NEED that go for broke attitude to win!!!

I still think Les is a good coach -- but WHY does he not overrule on a play where we have 3rd and 1 at the 6 yard line and the play called is a fade route pass to the EZ with a true fresh at QB???? At that point you just have to duck in and run the QB sneak or a QB draw, again IMHO. Just get the first down and then you have 3 more tries at the endzone.

On D --- we MUST make plays -- PP our stud Fresh corner dropped 2 ints on the final drive that would have sealed the deal ... 2 drops and few plays later we lose the game. Don't even get me started on the penalties .... rediculous.... did our players fail to see what happed to Troy when they we up and got cocky and started getting unsportsmanlike penalties?????

JJ was pretty good in the first half... but not the whole game... he gets a pass from me, it was his FIRST start.

D Byrd has fallen to new lows -- cut the hair you JA it apparently keeps you from seeing the ball or being able to jump????

Richard Dickson needs some stick-um ... sooooo many wide open dropped passes?????... yet then he makes a spectacular TD catch... what gives with that guy?

5 SEC losses .... SUCKS for this team... but I'd still rather be us than Auburn... after all - they were picked to win the SECW and they even lost to US.....LOL!

IMO the DC's need to go NOW! It's a tough biz and they did not get it done with a lot of talent up front. If we got burned in the secondary now and then due to young players OK -- but no rush, piss poor tackling and shitty schemes seem to be the norm under these guys... gotta go and we need a good DC and perhaps new D staff for next year.

IF Les does not fire the DCs -- then the team better win the SEC next year or he could well be gone himself for being too stubborn to realize that it needs to be done and that he is protecting his own future... that's the way it is in the big time SEC.

My soap box is now open for others to climb up on... LOL
