thanks for dissecting my comment Chuck.
wait, your a former college "footballer"? Well then we gotta call Miles and tell him you are going to set the lineup b/c you used to play football and you hear things from practice in the spring.

I agree with duboisd...that would be an ideal line to run the ball behind...period!

This may be the first offseason in a long time where I don't have my hopes up that we'll be better on at least one side of the ball.
I think another year in the system, learning Chavis schemes, and the coaches becoming more familiar with one another should make a difference.
On offense, we really couldnt get any worse, so only way to go is up. be positive.

Sorry I didn't clear that with ya Yat! Just an opinion.
Why the frick would you move a guy to center when he's never played the position before? That's like trying to move a LB to QB. Just because they're football players don't mean you can just plug them in like it's Playstation football.

I'm not terribly excited about the personnel on that side of the ball. They may wind up being the most feared defense in college football but I'm not to optimistic at this point.

We may improve offensively but exactly how much? We have alot of room for improvement.

In that case let's move him back to DT. I've read somewhere before that Blackwell could play Center, I like the idea of having his frame in between Hurst and Williford.

Thanks Mr. Footballer

Judging from his frame, Josh D. should be a tackle, not a guard IMO.

Potroast you said we have our best 2 lineman from last year on the right side? Just a question. How can Hurst be considered in that top 2 category when he barely played in comparison to any of the starters? Just an obvious question. Maybe you are going with what you feel is level of play rather than time contribution. If you are correct that he is top 2 then why was he barely on the field?

From the reports coming from practice, it seems that Miles lit a fire under Stud's a** and he is actually coaching and teaching technique this Spring.

I would rather see Hurst at guard. I will be sorely dissapinted if our interior line is not seriously upgraded in bulk this year.

I have always thought Josh D would make a better tackle than guard. I like maulers at guard. Maybe he will develop into one.

Anytime Hurst saw the field in replacement of Hitt, the offense was better. The got a better push and the pocket did not crater as easily. Hitt was terrible for 3 years at RG. The only reason he played was that he was the upperclassman and Stud's version of the teachers pet. Going back and watching the games, when Hurst was in I thought it was easy to see that he was more aggressive, technically sound, stronger, and quicker than Hitt. He knew who to block, when to block, and how to block.

This makes me . Why wouldn't he be doing this in previous years?
It makes me laugh too. When you hear former players state that Stud did nothing at practice and that Helms ran the show when he was there, it makes me worried. I guess we all saw the results last year when Helms was no longer there. According to the reports on the other sites, newspapers, etc. there is a visible change in the way Stud is acting and coaching at practice. It seems that he is actually doing his job. I take this as Miles must have lit a fire under his arse.

You don't think we'll be better on offense?
That's strange.

If you read a post later in this thread, you would have seen Farley made a post to me. After reconsidering my position, I told him we may improve but asked him how much, because we have a lot of room for improvement. Improvement doesn't automatically mean we'll be a stellar offense by any stretch. We may improve in the scoring offense category from putting up 24 points/game to 26 or 27 points/game, but that's still not an offense that alot of us would be happy with.
We lose an offensive tackle and right guard. We may be better at line play, but I'm not convinced at this point. We replace a tight end, and a WR in Lafell. A bright spot is Reuben Randle. We lose two running backs. The people looking to fill that void is a senior who has a history of knee injuries and never proven himself to be durable #1 back over the course of a season at this level. And another back in Ridley who doesn't have experience being a battering ram as the #1 guy over the course of a season either. And then there is Ford, who is inexperienced but was a major talent coming out of high school. The good thing about that position is running back may be the position where inexperienced but talented players can have an impact the quickest. Then, of course, we have JJ and Lee coming back.
We have question marks, no doubt, going into this season after fielding one of the weakest and sorriest(if not the weakest and sorriest)offenses of the decade. We also had perhaps the most pitiful offensive line since perhaps the unremarkable 1999 season. We have major room for improvement. In 2002, after Mauck got hurt, our offense ended up basically being inconsistent the second half of the season. The following season, with a healthy Mauck and a hungry and determined team still in a foul mood after losing a tight game the previous season to Arkansas in Little Rock, we made major strides offensively and we saw what happened with one of the best defenses in the SEC this decade.
We may improve, but I'm not convinced we'll the same type of improvement we saw from 2002 to 2003. But, I'll be pleasantly surprised if it happens.
