Matt Flynn says patience

Rivers is going to have time to develop. I think he was considered somewhat of a project to start out with. He could turn out to be the best of all these QB's. Time will tell. He just needs to work hard, develop, have patience, and see where the chips fall.

If, it's a big if, Mett has a great season next year he could possibly leave for the draft. I know it's a longship but stranger things have happened.

like the answers to the original question; there is a 25% chance that any of the following statements, jesters, conjectures, and plain stupid responses. Rivers like Mettenberger, like Randall and now Kiel all have a 25% chance of starting next season and probably two of them have a 50% of playing at least 25% of the season for the Tigers in the 2012 season. There is also a 25% chance that another may contribute in some other fashion next season. why put undue pressure on any of them? let it play itself out, plus i'm sure that this coaching staff will make quality decisions for what is best for the team.

Im with you , I dont think we always have to assume everyone is going to transfer. Sure , I would assume that Mettenburger will start the next 2 years but to assume that Philip rivers' little brother is going to throw in the towel just because a top prospect commits IMO is going a little far. Let's see what happens after spring practice. If I remember correctly Matt Flynn basically played one full year of QB at LSU and I believe he has done alright for himself.

If LSU wins back to back championships, and they very well could, we could see Mett leaving early. If that is the case, unless GK plays as a true freshman, Rivers will be the only pro-style QB with actual game experience. The game would be either on his shoulders or GK as a freshman for the 2013 year.
Unless of course we go with a dual threat QB, in which case we really have no backup if he gets hurt.
This has got to be one of the earliest threads for calling a player to transfer I have ever seen. It's not like it's Gore trying to compete for the 5th or 6th team RB slot.

Im glad you mentioned this and I know that this is a little off topic of the post but Im so glad to see someone not concerned about so many stars behind one 's name. Just because you may not be a 5 star running back QB or what ever does not mean you will not turn into a great college player. For instance one of the greatest running backs to hit the field in Charles Alexander at LSU was no more than a 3 star or at most 4 star back in the day if I recall correctly and I dont think Tom Brady was all that highly reagarded comimg out of high school either. In conclusion , just because Kiel may be a 5 star rating does not mean he's the best that ever was till we see how me matures in college. Just saying.

"only" one out of five 5 star guys makes it in the NFL.
Where is Ryan Perilloux?
RS10 will certainly never take a snap in the NFL as a QB.
You never know. Rivers may end up being better than his brother.

I hope they're all so good the coaches don't know who to play. I hope they have the "want" to be a Tiger. Damn it's good to be an LSU Tiger fan

I heard that Miles is considering a 4 QB rotation similar to how he plays the RB now,so we might need all these guys

First let me ask: do you not know how stats work?
Second, I wouldn't say that this thread is idiotic. Honestly, the thought popped in my head as well. I agree with what others have said that somehow the rant consensus seems to be that Rivers may never get a chance to be the starting QB now.
The fact of the matter is that coaches can't put all of their stock in one player, and thus they have to aggressively recruit the best players every year. This is why the talking heads this year said teams like LSU don't rebuild they just reload.
However, from a fan's standpoint, after watching guys get heavily recruited it can be frustrating when they never see the field. Nevertheless, guys get hurt, suspended, or leave early every year. Thus, you have to always be thinking ahead. And not to mention a little competition never hurt anyone.

what was that, Russell, Flynn and Perrilloux? yeah thats close
russell #1 pick if he could have layed of the donuts and actually practiced who knows.
Flynn-considered one of the best backups in the league may get his own team next year.
Perriloux-giants 3rd string QB has the intangibles he may get a shot.
All three of those QB's mentioned made it to the NFL and two are still there and the third could be if he had any type of work ethics.

Mett has not won the job yet. All QBs will compete and the qb that shows the most poise and control of the offense will start. Mett better start working to do that or Rivers or Keil or Randall will be starting next year. No one is guaranteed or has the inside track on that spot yet.

quote:Well you just got several informed opinions. Those opinions state that your thread is fricking ridiculous because nobody knows what will happen to a Redshirt freshman QB that hasn't played a snap. We can all start threads like this too, yet we choose not to. You ask why? because its fricking retarded. "Now what happens to Randall, Rivers, Mettenberger? Kiel just COMMITTEDto LSU so their jobs are done. Thanks for even giving LSU a chance guys." Sorry dude, the thread is just fricking stupid
I expect someone to make an informed opinion and an educated argument for one case or the other. Instead people who don't have the balls or mental capacity to admit that they don't know become even smaller shadows of the human race through attacking another for curiosity.
