This is my feeling exactly..
Like I said yesterday:
"Personally I think it makes yesterday's move look even worse... If you were gonna hire one of the best recruiters ever anyway in Orgeron, than why hire another one of the best recruiters as the DC. The only reason Steele was brought in was for recruiting, but now we have two awesome recruiters and nobody to coach the talented kids.
If we were always getting coach O, then Pendergast should have been the DC hire. He's an outstanding DC and the two (he and coach O) have worked together before, but Miles was just worried about him being able to recruit."
Orgeron is a great hire, but it would have been better had he been paired with a good DC

The correct answer is always "no."

People are more excited about our DL hire than our DC hire.... It should be the other way around.
It is very strange.
People are happy because they were both hired. It was said weeks ago that Miles was searching for someone who would bring on and accept Orgeron; for all we know this is the only guy who met those requests.
What people are excited about is a staff that will be one of the strongest in the country in regards to recruiting and has great teachers on the defensive side of the ball. There is still some trepidation, but LSU has put themselves in a great position since the departure of Chavis.
If that doesn't make you excited as an LSU fan you're either too cynical or not a fan.

My opinion as well but Steele is already here so we gotta roll with it as it is. I think the Orgeron announcement certainly took some of the sting away from the DC hire.

It's not like Steele is a complete idiot. I'm sure he knows his stuff but it's hard to ignore the last season he was at Clemson and the fact that it doesn't appear he has been pursued as a DC since.
I'm not as worried about his stint at Baylor because that was a different Baylor and not everyone is head coaching material.
I like the O hire but I'll have to see the on field results before I buy Steele as a great hire.
We don't have any choice now besides letting it play out.

This pretty much sums up the Steele hire.

Steele alone and I was prepared for anarchy. His resume flat out sucks and it just screams desperation hire. Add in O and the excitement he brings, I'm willing to wait it out before jumping on the cliff of fandom. Maybe this will be the perfect situation for Steele as a DC. I'm not counting on him to do a good job on game day, but he will certainly have enough talent to hide some deficiencies of his.

He may end up being great. I still don't think that makes him qualified for the job, and I still don't like the risk associated with the hire. This is not an upgrade over Chavis.
And I think coach O is a home run hire
my thoughts on all this...

Not even close. We got an incompentent, unproven coach at DC and a washed up has-been at DL in a league where defense wins championships.

I'm not jazzed about Steele AT ALL. But perhaps he can prove himself. Having O as a motivator definitely helps the situation.

I'm happier but still can't ignore our huge qb problem. Steele and Be be can't help that.

Hell yeah I am. Im not a big Miles Pumper but I do support the LSU program and will always will as the Ole War Skule is my alma mater (1983)but I will tip my Hat to the Ole Mad Hatter on this one. Believe that it will all work out for the ole Mad Hatter.
