The game announcer's responsibility is fairly simple, give a description of the game so that the listener can understand what is transpiring on the field. Hawthorne fails to do that on a consistent basis. Would you want to keep a losing coach because some people think he's a nice guy?

My guess is that someone more knowledgable/important/competent/relevant to the decision making process of JH's employment with LSU thinks he does and has done a pretty good job.

The worst thing about Jim is trying to get a score out of him. As a rule you're going to have to wait until the end of the inning.

How many times have you asked yourself "what the hell just happened?" after listening to JH call a play? More than few I'm sure.

You want to know why people don't like Hawthorne on the call? Here is a list of reasons. Objective reasons.
-He steps on the other broadcaster when he's speaking.
-He's bitter.
-He stops midway through a play to complain about the outcome of the play, and doesn't explain what happened.
-He doesn't know baseball.
-He complains about everything.
-He consistently mis-pronounces player names.
-He doesn't update the score often enough.
-He doesn't reset the action often enough, if at all.
-He has trouble distinguishing between a home run and fly out.
Most of these would be easy to deal with if he weren't so angry and negative all the time.
-He steps on the other broadcaster when he's speaking.
-He's bitter.

I've been listening to JH on the radio for a number of years. I don't have a problem at all following the game. In fact, I'd rather listen to him call the call on the radio that watch it on TV and have it called by a couple of uninformed and bland no-names.

I mean...it is kind of weird...I'm not going to call him a piece of shite for calling the third baseman the third sacker, but I've definitely never heard anyone else say it.

good list, my favorite are the seconds of dead air where he leaves the listener wondering exactly WTF is going on.
