re: Now I understand the Hawthorne Bashers

Over the years living in different places I have listened to several different LSU radio broadcasts with people who were not really Tiger fans but definitely knew of the program. The most common comment is something like I am surprised a huge program like LSU does not have a better play by play announcer or something to that effect and wow LSU is a great program but that guy doesnt keep you informed.
That is without me saying anything prior to bias the listener.
Some examples from listening to the 2013 game in Dallas which left us both shaking our heads.
"LSU is penalized for a personal foul back to the LSU 45 that is a 20 yard penalty. I have never heard of a 20 yard penalty that referee crew is confused."
The penalty was from the UW 40 to the LSU 45 but jim ranted about a 15 yard penalty.
Next call right after LSU punted on same drive for a touchback and UW started on teh LSU 20.
"3rd and 2 at the LSU 28 running back goes left crosses the 30 and goes down across the 31. The ball is being spotted just past the 31 yard line they will have to measure this one. They are giving them the first down with no measurement. Unbelieavable how can they not measure that".
And of course the infamous Jack Hunt call!
He is not good those kind of mistakes go on every night he is on the radio and unbiased observers are shocked to see LSU having a bottom level voice as the Voice of the Tigers.

So Gray Tiger says it is weird that a list of issues is posted and then asks for....a documented list of issues.
Congrats on not knowing enough about the game to notice the mistakes. I've said multiple times I can completely understand how none of this would bother people like you.

Jim's been doing this for 20+ years, still hasn't learned to how to accurately call a fly ball. He's terrible, and he's been terrible at it since the mid-90s. too much emotion + deteriorating eyesight is a bad combo.

While monotone, Charlie has forgetting more about baseball then Jim has ever known. Ill take him 10/10 times over that blind, emotional, old carcass.
If next year really is Jim's last year that is reason is celebrate. Just hope he hangs it up al at once & they don't slowly put him down over a 2-3 stretch.

Radio and TV PBP are 2 completely different animals. TV is a visual medium where the announcer does not need to go into as much detail as radio, since there are viewers, not just listeners.

I was on the road and I had two choices: Listen to Hawthorne or listen to SEC/IMG Sports Network. I chose the latter.

I agree 100%. Hawthorne has to go. Dude is too old and does a terrible play by play. Example: Vandy rips one down the third base line and he screams fair ball, then after ten secs, he says foul. Oh and "swing and a miss for a called strike 3." Wtf? And that sacker crap he says is retarded. I can't stand him and would love to see him go. I really don't care for the Jim lovers on here, cause they just defend him due to his name. What a joke. Go tigers, I would rather Gordy or someone confident and actually knows how to do the commentary.

Beating Kentucky in the blue grass miracle is not that big of a play in lsu history. We got lucky and won a game. We were average and they sucked. No one outside of lsu cares.
Warren Morris HR was one of the best calls I've ever heard. Bitch about that call why don't you.
Hawthorne catches hell for being a homer and being negative when lsu is sucking it up. Hanagriff does the same.

I had to listen to the perky, young, SEC announcer team and it was the same thing regarding not being able to get a score for long periods of time. However, he did tell you every move the players made, almost to a fault. But, I guess it's better than not having someone to tell me what's going on.
