I like what someone said about good fans earlier. You hang with your team through thick and thin. Not when everyone is going good.

Glad you finally figured this out. Just about everyteam has the exact same hype machine that LSU does with yourtube videos that pump you up to the point that you can't stand the wait for the season. They are all trying to sell magazines, radio show ads, newspapers, etc.

As Saban use to say, expectations are dangerous and the team should stay realistic and don't focus on what other people think. It still takes hard work and not hype.

The 1998 season taught me a very tough lesson and I will never go into another season that jacked up with "expectations".

As Saban use to say,

“Changes in history usually occur after some kind of catastrophic event,” Saban said during the opening remarks of his weekly news conference. “It may be 9-11, which sort of changed the spirit of America relative to catastrophic events. Pearl Harbor kind of got us ready for World War II, or whatever, and that was a catastrophic event.”

Murph is a great back(****), that saw limited pt behind other great backs but showed flashes of brilliance.

Bayou Bengal Blog had me convinced LSU was going to win the NC in 2008.

Of course, Les Miles saying the same thing at a TAF event that July didn't help matters.

Never again.

No doubt. There is reason to be optomistic, but there has been each of the past couple of years as well.

That's what makes it fun, dude.

Winning big isn't easy...it isn't guaranteed. Players sometimes are very different from one year to the next. It's the nature of college football.

If it truly wears you out to try and identify the potential guys who step up leading up to the season, then I feel very sorry for you. To me, thinking about the potential of guys like Montgomery, Shepard, Brockers, Claiborne, Randle, Hurst, Ford, etc. is enjoyable. These guys all have their best days ahead of them and it's enjoyable to consider what our team will look like if most improve the position they play over last year and a few flicker signs of being a great player.

I can't figure out why it hurts you so bad listen to the preseason hype. It's as if you expect that hype to be 100% accurate and are extremely disappointed when it doesn't turn out that way.

You nailed it. The last 2 seasons' debacles have me exactly in the same place. High expectations/low results kills goodwill. Every time.

Wierd. It's as if you need someone to set your own expectations.

Exactly. People who have to emotionally detach themselves from LSU football truly are pussies.

I guess you forgot the grain of salt?

I reckon CLM would do a great motivation job with your outlook?
"Look we lost our 5*QB to idiocy and I doubt we'll make 7-5. Ya'll get out there and keep it respectable is all I ask."

I've been a Tiger fan for about 30+ years now....I can assure you taht finish is probably in the top 10 during that thirty years of being an LSU fan

Nope. You're just wrong again.

Based on record, we had better seasons in...

1982: 8-3-1
1984: 8-3-1
1985: 9-2-1
1986: 9-3
1987: 10-1-1
1996: 10-2
1997: 9-3
2001: 10-3
2003: 13-1
2004: 9-3
2005: 11-2
2006: 11-2
2007: 12-2

So, 13 of the last 30, almost half, we have had a better record than the 9-4 record we had in 2009.

Based on final rankings (using the higher of the two final rankings, AP or coaches poll)...

1982: #11
1984: #15
1986: #10
1987: #5
1996: #12
1997: #13
2001: #7
2003: #1
2004: #16
2005: #5
2006: #3
2007: #1

So, in 12 of the last 30 seasons, 40%, we've finished with a higher ranking than the #17 ranking we finished with last year.

Whether by record or by ranking, LSU's 2009 season was barely in the top half of the last 30 years, which includes by far the worst period in our history, an 11-year stretch of futility that included eight losing seasons and practically the entire negative record book at the school

Not impressive.

I'm really looking forward to the season man...can't wait.

And, I understand that there is a chance it could not go well. I'm still looking forward to it. I'll take my chances with this talented young team and enjoy pulling for them.

I wouldn't trade that for what you are spewing right now.

Would be great if Murphy had an outstanding senior season, but even if not, hope Ford & Ridley will get their chances, maybe even Ware, if injuries occur.

Dude, it's a sport...a SPORT, like 3 or 4 steps up from Pop Warner football. It's for entertainment value (unless your a player!).

SPORTS = ENTERTAINMENT

Keep it in perspective. If it's not enjoyable, then quit watching it and find something else more enjoyable to bide your time.
It's not like LSU vs. Ole'Miss is life-n-death and holds implication for the future of our great country like USMC vs. the Taliban (and please don't lecture me on war, I've been there, done that).

Sorry for the soapbox, but sometimes the angst and misery on this website perplexes me. I love the Tigers as much as anyone else, but if they go 6 and 6 this year, I won't be jumping off a bridge or anything. Jeez, they're just a bunch a kids a few years out from high school, busting their butts to make Mom and Dad proud and maybe get a shot at making some big money someday. So if you don't want to drink the P&G kool-aid and enjoy the season, then don't. I hear the Saints have been winning lately.

Just want to see the best RB, whoever he turns out to be, getting the most playing time. Hope Miles will be fair about this, but I have some doubts. If it's Murphy, fine, but Miles should not feel like he owes it to Murphy, just because the kid is a senior who has been in the program longer than the others.

Nah. The only thing that sucks is following your alma mater's football team almost religiously for 30 years before finally seeing it built into the powerhouse you always knew it could be, and then seeing some jackass take over the program and ruin it.

The question is can they put it all together. I'll be cheering for them and I'll be at every game, but I just can't buy into the hype until these players play and the coaches pull their heads our of their rear ends.

Yeah, my worry is that they will put it all together too. Season is about here, will not need to speculate much longer. ALl the ingredients are there for LSU, just need it to gel.
