You just begin to see the bigger picture and realize how these things work in cycles. Not so much a loss of passion, but a deeper perception of the holistic nature of life.

I got absolutely lambasted for admitting that the results of LSU football caused me to do really stupid shite as an adult. Somehow, over the last year or two, I've been able to watch games, enjoy wins, move on from losses with no discernible effects on my life. Maybe it is age. It just took me to about age 48 to get there, not 28.

Late 20's, same boat. Last soul-crushing loss was 1/9. Since then, I might be annoyed or disappointed, sometimes even a bit angry, but within an hour after the game, I'm fine. Against MSU, I had come to terms with it before the final whistle even blew.
I still watch, I still enjoy, I still support, but the wins and losses don't sear into me like they used to.

LSU football (fanbase included) died on 1/9

I didn't miss a home football game from 1971 thru 2008 when I moved to the mtns of Tennessee. I moved back to Louisiana last year and I still have season tickets but I let friends in Lafayette use them. I'm content now watching it on the big screen and having beer and a bathroom a few feet from the couch. I'm just as passionate about LSU but wins and losses don't affect me like they did when I was younger. I go with the flow now...afterall, it's just entertainment. With that said...BEAT AUBURN!

This is a second marriage for me. We've been married two years, and dated about 4 years prior to that, so now, we've been together for 6 football seasons. Over the course of that 6 years, I have, at times, become overly emotional during LSU football games, and I've displayed this emotion by:
1. Throwing stuff (cocktail glasses) out of our yard from the deck, and onto 6th street (for you Monrovians) during the infamous Ole Miss/no timeout game.
2. Throwing about 5 tonic water bottles at our barbq grill (hit it like 3 times, which put big dents in it) during the Clemson game.
3. Hollering for Tebow to get re-concussed during the Florida game (we were watching this game with another couple)
4. MF'ing and GD'ing the world during the Alabama game(s). No one other than her was a witness thereto.
5. Other Alabama games (see PP7 interceptions), where other people were around, being generally nonpleasant to be around, but holding the cursing down to a few damns, shits, and hells. Ya know, since there were other folks there and all.
6. During the Georgia game, when Lee threw bunch of pics, I did not want to hang around at the tailgate after the game, and wanted to go back to the hotel. My assholery was in full bloom that day for sure.
I am 46. My wife is an LSU grad, and understands how important LSU football is to me specifically, and to La's culture in general.
My question is this. Should I make a concerted effort to tone it down in an attempt to be a better husband, or should I continue going with my motto of "hey, if it doesn't really matter who wins to you, then don't freakin watch the game".
I have told her that I am passionate about very little in life. Outside of her, my beautiful 19 year old daughter that has a 3.7 after her first year of college (no pics dickheads), a big wad of cupping mallards, it's pretty much just LSU sports that really fires me up.
I need advice, and will hang up and listen.

I'm 28 too, and it's happening to me

2011 was the peak of my passion for the game and also my fall after 1/9
I learned not to be so attached to lsu football since then. I still love LSU and will root for them no matter what. But it doesn't effect me emotionally or anything anymore.

Yes. Time and experience tend to bring all matter of things into perspective. Football is still an important seasonal passtime for me, but I don't get as high or low as I used to. You may occassionally catch me venting on the scoreboard during and immediately after an especially terrible outing.

congratulations, you have a real life now, where LSU football does not ruin your year. Unfortunately, there are still far too many that let LSU football control the quality of their life. I love LSU sports, and especially football....but it's just a game.

That one left a mark on most fans. As I posted here on 1/10, it would have been difficult to conceive of a worse outcome.
Greatest season ever flushed down the drain in spectacular fasion...by LSU's former coach, in the Super Dome,in a humiliating shutout (the first in a BCSNCG), during a re-match that no team should have had to play. If we'd won that game Les would have been up 4-2 on Saban, we would have been the only 3x BCSNC, and we'd today likely be considered a program on par with Alabama in the modern era, if not better.
F that game.

It is called Low-T, and you need to get it checked out.

I do admit that 1-9-12 changed my view of LSU football forever. That game where the team obviously quit the game before the kickoff really changed my perspective on the program and Les Miles.
I am as pissed about 1/9/12 as anyone ... but, not sure how you arrived at the "quit" conclusion.
It was 15-0 at the beginning of the 4th. The defense was doing everything they could all game long. They worked their asses off.

I watched football on mushrooms once, and couldn't help but think about how time goes on forever, therefore every game will be forgotten about, rendering them meaningless.

Speak for yourself, homie. I've been watching and enjoying for 40 years. And still enjoy it just as much.

What a bunch of kids do on a field on a Saturday just doesn't really affect anything in my life, so I don't let it bother me.
Posted on 10/4/14 at 11:49 am to TexasTiger08
I'm still a bit numb from 1/9/2012. Not in pain, but there just isn't the emotion for LSU football that there once was. Maybe that's for the better. I enjoy the games, but there's much more of a ho-hum attitude about winning or losing.

Perfectly normal. What were your priorities at LSU? When and where to get drunk. Which chicks I bang. How to cram for a test. And LSU football.
Life goes on and those priorities change. I'm only 23 and it's already started to lose it's luster. I still love it, just doesn't sting as much as it used to. I was over the Miss St loss before the Hail Mary even hit the ground.
