Dandy Don quoted PM yesterday saying Coomes was good to go, but Slaughter started and played whole game. Anyone know why?

a little, yes. A little. He still has some really bad swings. However, he was having some really bad at bats.

Watching him try and go after one high and tight for a strikeout was ugly.

If Coomes thumb is affecting his swing, then yeah keep him out. If not, still rather see him back in there. Being good to geaux and effective are two different things.

Coombs was racking the ball in BP yesterday. He's been in Maneri jail ever since Kramer through one in the stands when Coombs was off the bag.

Racking?

If you meant raking, then raking in practice is not the same as in a game

as he should be. imagine a first baseman forgetting he was playing first. holy shite, playing first base is less challenging than any position on the field (in my opinion); there is no excuse for forgetting to cover your bag. also, Coomes was not scooping throws very well either. it wouldn't surprise me if PM didn't consult krob before pulling him.

Coomes was inserted in the lineup at a time when the lineup needed to sacrifice defense for offense. You don't need to do that anymore plus Coomes hasn't been hitting lately. . You can afford to have the better defensive option at first if both aren't hitting a ton. Very similar to the Romero/Pap decision at catcher the end of last year.

It's funny that people constantly bitch and whine about PM leaving Jordan in, to the point of "fire the coach", While Jordan's batting .275...
But complain that he benches Coomes who was playing horrible both in the field and at the plate.

Same people that were calling for Romero over Papierski. They honestly believe they know more than a coach with over 1300 wins

These are the same people ( And I know a few of 'em) who never played an inning of baseball, a down in football, a play in basketball....Actually were in the choir in high school...But know more about these sports than any coach the Tigers have ever had

Slaughter is better defensively, but missed a couple balls thrown at him he should've caught. Coomes has looked terrible at the plate lately and not protecting Deichman at all.
