He got the most out of a unit last year that was lacking in dudes especially at safety and DL. Now with added transfer talent, back to back top 10 recruiting classes that includes day 1 impact freshmen like DJ Pickett , young players poised to take the next step like spears, woodland, breaux, keys and McKinley, I truly think this defense has the talent to wreck havoc and cause the chaos that baker’s scheme goes for. I think we’re gonna get back to being a classic fast physical, hard hitting LSU defense with shutdown corners and playmaking safeties .

Hopefully he learned how to defend a qb that can scramble

A little extra pressure on the QB will make the DB’s look a lot better. I think both of those groups have improved and it could have an exponential impact. Throw in Weeks and Perkins returning and I get pretty excited about the potential.

Hopefully a healthy Perkins will be a big solution to that issue. I think true freshmen lb Charles Ross should also see the field against guys like Reed. That kid is a legit 4.3 runner at Lb no qb is outrunning him sideline to sideline

last year's bama game was yet another embarassment in Tiger Stadium.

Baker improved Mizzou in year one, but they took a bigger leap in year two. I expect the same here.

He kept Dart in check and shut Pavia and Tayler Green down cold. We also forced two turnovers that lead to scores and knocked Sellers out of the game, so it’s not like he couldn’t slow any of them down. Not everyone is as athletic as Milroe and Reed.

And he has even more talent to work with here than he had at Mizzou. I expect big things outta this unit

Man, it sucks but I’m of the wait and see approach. Theses last few years of blowing the 1st game make me very cautious of drinking the koolaid

The offense, especially Nuss, had 2 critical turnovers that were critical

Good post, it’s always refreshing even if it’s very rare to read stuff that can be positive and true. I hope it lasts but I’m sure some whiny critics are loading up.

I was tremendously disappointed with his lack of plan for the option game from Bama when A&M had JUST burned us with the same plays in the previous game.

With a bye to sort it all out.

Inexcusable.

I could stomach losing to Milroe’s arm a whole lot better than Milroe’s legs especially knowing Milroe is poo at throwing the ball.

Playing on the road in Tiger Stadium at night. Why didn’t we make this kid beat us with his arm like Aranda and Hurts?

It’s very easy to see them being top 25 D.

i’m excited to see Perkins in his new roll.

I dont think there is anything we asked Burns to do last year that Perkins doesn’t to significantly better.

I wouldn’t say ‘he got the most out of a unit last year’ because he still had some cancers on the squad. Those guys even infected Perkins, who started to purposely avoid initial contact. If that’s gone and guys like ‘Weeks’ start to influence more, it could be a fun one.
