Call and express an interest in donating. You will be met with voicemail and bureaucratic dindus, at best a form letter.

I know a few very well off alums that don't contribute money to the school. it's a shame LSU has failed so substantially to create a culture of giving.
I think LSU's next capital campaign is going to put emphasis on reaching out more to the entire alumni base.
eta: Also people should keep in mind that a lot of big time donors for LSU athletics did not attend LSU, so they more so support the athletic side

The energy sector gives a good deal of money to the Engineering Dept and the College of the Coast and Environment.
I knew that for sure. The industry does give a lot directly to the specific programs and not to the LSU foundation. So reality the graphs are not painting the entire picture.

The problem is that the average alum is more likely to give money to TAF instead of to the LSU Foundation. Gotta get those priority points.
Absolutely. The foundation and the Alumni Association need better collusion. The Alumni Association does a good job. I have been a contributor since I graduated, but the LSU Foundation which I know at one time shared space with the Alumni Association does not. The Foundation is almost like ghost.

Seems to me you should get priority points regardless of whether you are donating to TAF or to the university. And I echo the comments about not being contacted for donations. I graduated four years ago and can't recall the last time I was mailed.

Maybe just maybe the state of Louisiana doesn't need 12 four year universities for a state with a population of 4.5 million.

Why don't you do some research to see how other schools raise money for academics and then bring some ideas to the board. You're asking us to do your work for you. That's lazy
Writing sentences in all caps won't catalyze people. Ideas will.

It's one of the best academic institutions in the Conference top half for sure.

I agree 100% There needs to be a system where all donations to the university regardless of side should factor into the priority points system. The Association of Former Students at Texas A&M contributions do in fact contribute to their priority point system. Texas Ex at UT does as well.

The OP is as misguided as the article linked to. First off, the 'academic contributions' include research grants, making the numbers incredibly skewed for the story they're trying to sell. Secondly, no matter how jealous, academics has no right to the money athletics takes in, so all the ranting about how nice the athletics buildings are and such is just pathetic noise. Thirdly, and most importantly, why would anyone donate more money to a university that has shown no idea how to spend it responsibly? With 36.8 million a year (plus what athletics generously kicks over to them), there is no reason to have 'leaks in a class room' or such. Democrats always say more money is the answer because that's what personally makes them richer - certainly not doing a better job of managing the money they do have (in their minds).

Yep. Both Departments have done outstanding work.

Wow. That is completely utterly embarrassing.

+1. Louisiana needs to put much more focus on their technical college system. The LNG growth combined with all the construction in the Lake Charles Area needs workers, and process operators to run the new plants. But much of the money is going to bs 4 schools that provides little return.
