I don't proclaim myself to be a genius but I know a decent amount about college basketball and the "behind the scenes" stuff that happens with the LSU program. I just read what tons of people post here about us having zero talent and Trent is a horrible coach and blah blah blah but they don't do any research into what is really going on. Its tough for young guys to lead a team like we have with our freshmen and sophomores getting 70% of the minutes...

yes but that has nothing to do with basketball.

Also, if John Brady wasn't a giant douche, he'd likely still be LSU's coach. He wasn't a great coach, nor horrible. He actually fit at LSU pretty good, IMO. He was just a jerk that not many people liked.

Welcome to the current state of college basketball. If you can't win with freshman and sophomores, you aren't going to win very often or consistently.

Trent Johnson's biggest problem is that he isn't an exciting person. If he had more of a personality than a tree, he might get a pass. But, when your team is sucking it up at the point of the season where they are playing against the weakest competition they'll face all year, people start to wonder. Especially when your coach has no swagga.

He definitely doesn't do much to sell the program to the fans himself like Pearl did/does at Tennessee...

A team can be the worst team in the country one year, have a good recruiting class, and then all of a sudden win their conference and be a Final Four team.

ehh, maybe the UNC's and Duke's of the world but I don't think a team like LSU or even Florida can go from cellar dweller to Final 4 in one year.

You HAVE to have some upperclassmen who can lead unless you have a John Wall, Demarcus Cousins, or Kevin Durant. Notice still none of those guys brought a team to a Final 4. Teams primarily led by one and dones still find it hard to get to the Final 4... Last I can remember that was really really young was 02-03 Syracuse. Anthony was a freshman, Warrick was a soph, and I think Duany was a senior.

I won't argue with you at all on that point. However, did you ever meet him personally? I did on several occasions and he was extremely nice. However, he was certainly abrasive at times. I think it was his time to go. I also think Trent Johnson may sign his own pink slip if this team doesn't show something this year.

there is a 0% chance Trent Johnson is fired this year unless he does something against NCAA rules or criminal...

I think you're right and I'm starting to dread that more and more with each passing game.

No, and I have no doubt that he could be a great person outside of being a basketball coach. But, he was being paid to be a basketball coach. Part of that is winning over your players and fan base.

He is definitely not doing himself any favors by not making a big splash. What the basketball program really needs is a Gerry DiNardo. We need someone who will spend a large amount of his off-season selling the program all around the state of Louisiana. We need someone who will energize the fan base and put people's butts in the seats.

Heck, you might be able to get the state so excited about LSU basketball that good high school players actually want to come play here.

well don't watch them and don't go. I'll continue to support the young guys and hope they improve and that they continue to get new guys to help them back to the NCAA tournament.

I agree, but I think the "Brady is an a-hole" argument is overplayed. I'm not asking to bring Brady back, but he did WAY more good than harm for LSU basketball and some people just can't see that. It's like Gerry Dinardo syndrome. Some people just can't see the forest for the trees.

You can win with one and done type freshman. We have talented young players, but not the Carmelo Anthony or Kevin Durant type. Going after one and dones doesn't necessarily lead to consistency. You basically have to hit the jackpot every year. North Carolina and Duke aren't winning with freshman as the stars of the team. They are being groomed and gaining experience under veteran players. Duke's starting lineup last year had 3 seniors and 2 juniors. North Carolina had 3 seniors and 2 juniors when they won it all.

the whole a-hole Brady thing is dumb from fans. now the players are a totally different story. he hurt team chemistry a lot through his favoritism and whatnot..

One of my best friends at LSU was a 3 year starter that earned his stripes and he laughed off Brady's rants. He was certainly very mature for a college basketball player, though. It's when you get a crybaby like Tim Bush that it becomes a problem.

I question Mason's ability to land a shot.

The next "dwayne wade" is what they called him at Marquette. I think a family member of his used to post here. Mason was a nice guy but man he struggled...
