need a more downfield running approach next year

I said it long before the season even started that EMERY and TDP did not fit the running scheme that we ran in 2019 and it was very evident this year. I guess you can attribute that to the bad offensive line play but I really think CEH was just a perfect candidate to play in our 2019 offense. His shiftiness and ridiculous skill to make people miss in a phone both made him adapt to the style of offense we ran. Emery and Price are great running back but they we're not CEH. TBOB and other local LSU reporters said throughout this past season that LSU struggled a lot at times because they were too stubborn to change certain philosophies about our offense to suit the personnel we had. With two Thoroughbred runningbacks coming back next season with 2 years of experience under their belt I think that our offense needs to run more downhill. Sick of seeing the slow developing runs that end in our backs having nowhere to run and getting stopped in the backfield. Especially if Tory Carter returnes. There is no sense in wasting his last season in a very limited role playing Tight End. Let's get some power running game back in 2021. This doesn't mean abandon the spread either. I just think bringing back some power concepts into the offense with the personnel we have returning will go a long way in the running game next season.

We also need an OL that can block better as well

The running part of the playbook really needs some development. We did have the iso in the playbook, but rarely ran it this year for whatever reason. We do really need some more running play design. I’d like to see the pistol makes its way into the playbook, even if in the form that we ran it against Bama.

We need a lot of things. IN addition to an O-line that can actually move bodies we need a better run scheme. There is absolutely no variation in our running plays.
We also need a less confusing rotation of backs. Both TDP and Emery have the talent. That's not an issue.
It's insane that now that we are a threat in the passing game that it hasn't opened up the run game. That's a combination of OL, scheme, and play calling.

Emory fits our running game perfectly. Just had a shite OL

You suggesting the "toss dive"?

Bring it back

What was evident this year is that we were behind by 3 touchdowns in the second quarter and our O-line was horrible.

Not happening. And easily stopped. If Bama is the competition... LSU has to have an offense that can score at the same rate as they do. An attempt at the Milesian down hill running approach dooms LSU to at best second to Bama.
Bama runs zone blocking ... and never uses the I formation or a lead blocking fullback.
Whatever

It just seemed E didn’t know how to run out of the gun. Nothing creative whatsoever. Could be an OL limitation, but I’m not so sure.

What we need are OL that can block their man without a double team

How about some 300 lb “TEs” too?

We need a better scheme. There was no variation to the blocking scheme this year. No counters, wam blocks, or traps. Just straight ahead block the guy in front of you and scrape to the second level if there's no one in your face. Very unimaginative. Hard to do that when your o line can't win individual battles.
