Well, he did run him off. Do you think that was a good idea?

The girls are in a GREAT position right now. Man, I hope Duncan somehow comes back. They'd bring home #27 and 28

She'd be a fool to come back, especially with this year being an Olympic year. Pro contract money is always the biggest in Olympic years.

Plus, unlike most sports (NFL, NBA, MLB), an athlete can go pro in track and go to school in the fall & spring terms. I know Richard Thompson did this (he was done with eligibility, but continued at LSU as a pro).

Thanks for the feed back. I can't say I know track even remotely close to you guys, but I've always followed them just out of respect to our illustrious history.

So I know the women are in a very, very good position. You guys think the men can take this?

The men would need a lot of help to win it all, but things like this have happened, like in 2000 when the women needed four teams ranked ahead of them to self-destruct and they all did.

By the way, for those of you who didn't know it, the men have six national championships, which is the same number as LSU's baseball team.

The women are in a dog fight with Oregon and the men are doing about as well as expected but they would need some help to win the title. It's going to start heating up today, with LSU and Oregon going head-to-head in 100, 400 and the 800 on Friday and the 4x00 and the 4x400 on Saturday. LSU and Oregon might finish 1-2 in all five of these events, and who wins these races is critical. In 2007, LSU's men finished second to Florida State in both the 4x100 and the 100, and Florida State went on to win the team title. However, if LSU has won both of those races, they would have won the team title. FYI, the meet will be on ESPN3 today and ESPNU on Saturday. Check it out.

No they don't. That's bollucks. The men NEEDED a lot of help, but they already got it. Right now, Florida, A&M and LSU are all in equal positions to win it with Florida St a little bit behind.

But anyway, to answer your question, yes definitely so. On paper, we are actually probably in the lead right now. The hurdles is going to be a huge event because A&M, Florida, and LSU all have a guy in the finals.

The Hammer throw is about to start in an hour. LSU and Florida both have a guy who is projected to score in that event. LSU can take a decisive lead if our thrower comes up big.

The LSU men don't have nearly the qualifiers that A&M, FSU and UF have in the latter events.

I'd be shocked if LSU finished 3rd, much less win the title.

My projection goes:

1) FSU
2) A&M
3) UF
4) LSU

You are woefully misinformed. LSU has a triple jumper, hammer thrower, pole vaulter, 100 guy, 200 guy, 4x1, 4x4, and hurdles guy remaining. That is more than any other team.

LSU's only issue is that they don't have as many "sure" high point scorers left. Florida is going to score high in Triple Jump, 400, and Hammer Throw. LSU's points are less certain.

However, of the events LSU has left, the pole vaulter is the only one not projected to score. And pole vault is a relatively easy event to have upsets in.

Here would be the results based on my best guess for the finishes of the remaining events.

LSU 11+4(tj)+3(ht)+1(100)+3(200)+8(hurd)+6(4x1)+8(4x4)=44

A&M 9+6(200)+6(hurd)+5(steep)+6(4x1)+5(400)+4(4x4)=41

FSU 5+16(100)+12(200)+8(4x1)+3(tj)=44

Florida 8+8(ht)+10(tj)+10(400)+4(4x4)+1(hurd)=41

Florida St also has a shot putter who has a chance of scoring.

So, as you can see, it is incredibly close. If LSU loses, it is through no want of last 2 day qualifiers. The problem is our hurdles, triple jump and relays would be more likely to go up than down. We might be able to pick up a couple points and the short sprints and our hammer thrower could go either way.

This team is capable of scoring in the 40's but I think it may take at least 50 to win the thing.

Projected point total for FSU right now is 51

For A&M and UF its 43.

The projection stopped there.

Where exactly do you get that from? How many points do you have them getting in the triple and shot?

By the way, the first flight of hammer has gone, and it bodes well for us. Michael Lauro hasn't thrown yet for us, but two of the guys seeded ahead of him stand a good chance of not making the finals.

In other words, we picked up 2 points on our projected score. He still has to go out there and throw, but the competition has gotten easier.
