Often hear/read that Louisiana is lacking in basketball talent as part of the reason our mens basketball program has trouble having success. That is 100% a myth. Here is a full 13 man roster of players either from Louisiana or that played high school basketball in Louisiana along with players that were within 30 minutes of our borders.
This is just off NCAA tournament teams rosters and does not include McNeese St or Grambling.
Daniel Ortiz 6'0 G (UAB)- Shreveport, LA
Mylik Wilson 6'2 G (Houston)- Rayville, LA
Tyrece Radford 6'3 G (Texas A&M) - Baton Rouge, LA
Reece Beekman 6'3 G (Virginia) - Scottlandville, LA
Javon Ruffin 6'5 G (Colorado)- New Orleans, LA
Kalil Thomas 6'5 G (Moorehead St)- New Orleans, LA
Tylan Pope 6'6 F (Nevada) - Franklinton, LA
Ja'vier Francis 6'8 F (Houston)- New Orleans, LA
Tyler Ringgold 6'8 F (Texas A&M)- Baton Rouge, LA
Christian Coleman 6'9 F (UAB)- Winnsboro, LA
(Guys 30 minutes from Louisiana Borders)
Alijah Martin 6'2 G (FAU)- Summit, MS
Terrance Arceneaux 6'6 G/F (Houston) Beaumont, TX
Tolu Smith 6'11 F (Miss St) - Bay St Louis, MS
ETA: A starting 5 of
Radford
Wilson
Arceneaux
Francis
Smith

Why not include McNeese and Grambling?

Wanted to come back to this and see who on this list we actually offered.
According to 24/7 it was only these 2:
Reece Beekman
Terrance Arceneaux

So the previous coach either didn’t sign them, or he left the program in shambles so none of them were interested in LSU.

Damn. will Wade was a poor talent evaluator if he couldn't see all this local talent.

Someone posted A&M has 3-4 Louisiana guys on their roster and I couldn’t believe it. Lots of raw talent and it’s telling they’re in the state of Texas yet still have a substantial amount of Louisiana guys.
At this point I don’t care what the challenge is. No reason we can’t be competitive and put out a top product every year, or at least a tournament team. The excuses run thin when a barely legitimate university in Grand Canyon can give Alabama a threat we haven’t in years.

Do you have stats for these players?

That’s a fair share. I had no idea.
