Saban's players are now gone. the 2008 record reflects that somewhat. 3-4 losses this year will reinforce my take that this ship is tilting and that Miles is just another Larry Coker.

That's about all we can do, since we sure as hell won't see one in real life.

why is it so hard to imagine a win against an Arkansas team that has the worst defense in the conference

Because we have the worst offense in the conference. Georgia has an absolutely shitty defense and held us without a TD for 57 minutes.

an Ole Miss team whose offense is suffering as badly and possibly more than ours?

Not even close. I'd take their offense over ours in a heartbeat right now.

I agree that at this moment, Alabama would certainly be a loss. But we don't play Alabama this weekend and a lot could change between then and now.

A lot will change. Alabama probably will, as well coached teams do, get better. LSU probably will, as badly coached teams do, get worse. If Bama is a loss today, they are a blowout in November.

I liked it in 2007 but we all know the outcome. I get what you are saying though.

Whether it's because I'm an optimist or not, I find it hard not to give Les a pass for last year. The Perrilloux effect was in full force, and the loss of Pelini was absolutely huge. HOWEVER, if he does put up a similar record this year, I will concede that something is wrong in the program. I just don't see that happening.

If the future is so bleak, why don't you just go end it all right now?

I wouldn't put you in the "Can't see the forest through the trees fans" We have plenty on this board that sit in that crowd. You make sound points, and I guess we would have to disagree on some. I know I am a negatiger but as a season ticket holder and alum I am disappointed in our performance since 2008. Now its Miller time.

If my life or happiness depended on the success of LSU football, my list of people to kill would not have me at the top of it.

Florida is probably one of the few teams that theoretically can do it every year considering the population, facilities, and fan support. Florida is the best gig in college football. LSU and Texas are right behind them in terms of plum gigs.

Waiting to see what happens if Randy Shannon can really revitalize Miami and if Bowden ever stops getting in the way of Florida State's success.

That's the key. I liked Saban when he was here, but that could have been a handful of coaches. LSU was ready and willing to develop the facilities and spend the money that was needed to bring our program to elite status. It just so happened that Saban was here when all of that happened...not saying he didn't help the situation and make us elite, I'm just saying LSU (as a whole, fans, facilities, location, players, etc.) was ready to create the perfect storm. LSU is on top and with the recruitng Miles has done, we should stay on top for quite some time. Right now the offense isn't doing what it should - since he's been here our offense has been very good. I do see him correcting that - whether is happens this year, this week or in the off season - Miles will correct it. LSU is on top and will remain an elite program for many many years.

It's very simple.

LSU is an elite SEC team now. We should be a top contender for the SEC West EVERY YEAR. If we do that, then we are meeting the expectations of an elite program.

With that formula, we will win the SEC West with some regularity, win the SEC will a little less regularity, and play for national titles with less regularity than that.

3-5 in the SEC is NOT acceptable for this program. Every season after '02 has met expectations under the above criteria, except for '08. This season is TBD. If '08 is an abherration, then it's just a bump. I think most of us are afraid this is '08 The Sequel, not '03-'07.

At the end, it's about wins, not style.

Unfortunately, you are probably right. It's more likely to be 5.

it's not as if our own team isn't improving

The defense improved after the first three games. The offense is nowhere close to improving. It has gotten worse, and all signs indicate it is still getting worse. We were much better last year on offense, so any improvement by the defense has been offset by that.
