My solution: Hypothetical - P5 Opponents Only & Playoff Expansion

Schedule hypothetical: SEC games stay at 8, Sankey doesn’t want canibilization.
P5 opponent from each other conference. So every year:
4 SEC Home Games
4 SEC Away Games
1 P5 Home Game
1 P5 Away Game
1 P5 Home or Away game (rotates)
1 P5 Neutral site or home/away game (Neutral if your awarded a contract, Home/Away series is not. In this situation you have to trust your administration to make the best decision for your program)
Let’s say this year our schedule looked like
vs Miami (neutral ACC)
vs TCU (Big 12)
@Auburn
@ UCLA (Pac 12)
vs Ole Miss
@Florida
vs State
vs Georgia
vs Bama
@Arkansas
vs Michigan (Big 10)
@A&M
So instead of La Texh, SE and Rice at home we play: TCU and Michigan at home and visit UCLA.
I would love to watch this schedule. Hopefully they could spread out the home games more evenly. With these games 3 things are going to happen: more people are going to go to the games and tune in, we will have a better idea where everyone truly stands instead of building a good record vs bad teams and almost everyone is going to lose multiple games.
I also think they would need to expand the playoff in this situation-
What about-
P5 Confernce winners receive an automatic berth. 3 at large bids.
Or P5 conference winners. 7 at large and the top 4 receive first round byes
Last year would look like
1. Clemson (bye) ACC champion
2. Oklahoma (bye) Big 12 Champion
3. Georgia (bye) SEC Champion
4. Alabama (bye)
(5) Ohio State Big 10 champion vs (12) UCF (winner plays Bama)
(6) Wisonsin vs (11) Washington (winner plays UGA)
(7) Auburn vs (10) Miami (winner plays OU)
(8) USCw Pac-12 Champion vs (9) Penn State (winner plays Clemson)
You already ask 2 teams to play 15 games, in this scenario your asking 2 teams (if they make it out of the 5-12 bracket) to play 16 games. Same as NFL regular season.

I think you would need at least 2 bye weeks in there, if not 3. There just aren't very many opportunities to rest your starters in the 2nd half do to blowouts. That also brings into question at what point will you be able to get your backups reps?
I agree 100% in that I would love to watch it as well.

I agree. If you add a bye week and another round of playoffs then you add 2 weeks to the season as well. I would want something like this:
quote:
vs Miami (neutral ACC)
vs TCU (Big 12)
@Auburn
@ UCLA (Pac 12)
BYE
vs Ole Miss
@Florida
vs State
vs Georgia
BYE
vs Bama
@Arkansas
vs Michigan (Big 10)
@A&M

So much depth would be needed in the trenches. My knees are hurting for any big guy who would have to go through that season.
Teams like UCF would b!tch so hard about this.
That said, I would love to see games like that each week.

3, 4 game blocks for everyone with byes between each block which would give 2 byes. With the new redshirt rules there would be at least more of an opportunity for backups to get get reps throughout the year they just have to be rotated so they only go over 4 games if they've already redshirted or they contribute enough that they're needed for more of the year. The 4th block of games is essentially the playoff/bowl season.
The idea has merit imo.

They play 16 regular season games every year. So either your preparing these kids for the inevitable NFL schedule or your giving student athletes 1 more game for a national title.
Under this structure the most games any team would ever play is 16. Georgia played 15 last year and Bama played 15 the year before. Kids are lining up to go to those schools.
You think if you polled the Auburn players would they have rather played UCF in a bowl game or possibly play two more games that season and win the Natty?

Where do you play all of these playoff games? better seeds host?

Maybe do a high seed /regional host contract. So I LSU is the 1 seed and Oregon gets them in the next round then they play in the closet qualified venue to LSU (Superdome, Jerry World, Atlanta or wherever)
You would have to do a bidding pool for each round of the playoffs and they would have to effectively cover all the regions of the country.
So Reliant and Jerry World couldn’t be in 1 pool.

Probably won't happen because state politics want their big in state schools to play the smaller schools to help pay some bills.
I would love to watch that schedule though!

I have always said 12 is perfect. It still keeps a MAJOR incentive to finish top 4. High seed hosts each game until the final game, which would be bid on just like the super bowl.13 can go pound sand.
