If you were going to promote Haley, why let the media report that you are interviewing a bunch of legit candidates only to later promote a lackluster one? Would be egg on Miles and Alleva's faces

If you interview a bunch of viable candidates, then hire a guy with no experience and that is getting zero interest from any other school as a DC, it's going to look terrible. Appearance will be that no one wants to coach here. Chavis leaving for a rival, not being able to attract a competent replacement, the QB situation... It's going to eventually add up.

This really makes me think its NOT Brick. If he's Miles' favorite, this wouldn't have lingered on for a week. Miles may talk goofy, but he's smart enough to realize this hire either makes or breaks him at LSU.

Good info. I'm just taking a crack at OP for associating socially with anyone at PSU for their "off the field" issues.

FWIW...I realize the enormity of the university and have acquaintances myself with ties.

And he did that with a sanction depleted Defense that has less talent than us. I'd give him $1 more than what Chavis asked for and I'd make it known. How's that for a message? Show the college football world your big Tiger balls and show Chavis what we think of his lack of display of the character he acts like he possesses.

Let's just pretend that Brick is some monster that is about to revolutionize the college football world as a DC. That he is better than anyone and no one knows about it. What sends a stronger message of support? An immediate press conference where you put full confidence in him. Or a bunch of interviews with great DC's, that all appear to tell you no thanks, then promoting from within?

I have no issue with anything you've said. Penn State would be stupid not to realize what they have and give him a raise.

Question is, will the raise be as much as what LSU is willing to offer?

This. No one is doubting that they can afford to match anything we offer, but they just don't have the track record saying they will. Hopefully it continues.
