The Tennessee win in 2000 was the first time since Oct. 17th, 1997 (the Friday before the 11am choke against Ole Miss) that LSU fans could smile and be proud about their football team...look it up, and yes the 1999 Arkansas win was nice, but finishing 3-8 instead of 2-9 isn't an achievement...

This win was the springboard for the solid 8-4 finish in 2000(after going 3-8) and the SEC title to come the following year...

UGA/AZ State is a tough battle for 1st IMO..

UGA was the biggest game at the time..and is top 3 easily.

AZ State was one of the most wild games I've ever seen. LSU was down and kept battling, making special team plays (the punt block return TD) and then the JaMarcus heave to the corner of the endzone on 4th down..just amazing. Such an emotional game.

I'll limit this to games we actually won. In no order:

Ohio State 2007
Oklahoma 2003
Auburn 2007
Florida 2007
Arizona State 2005
Alabama 2005
Alabama 2007
Ole Miss 2003
Virginia Tech 2007
Miami 2005

But the list is the most "important" games, not the wildest or most fun to watch.

Some can't get past the "me like" mindset to realize certain games carried immense weight and others less weight in the scheme of things.

IMO, he's right on target in naming the first UGA game in 2003 as the most important for LSU. It was absolutely pivotal; both unbeatens, UGA favored, only LSU emerged as the true heavyweight. If UGA had beaten the Tigers no MNC would have happened. Probably UGA would have moved on to remain unbeaten and unbowed in reg. season, and LSU would have had to build another year. Yes it's true we may have still made it to the SECCG and beaten UGA in a rematch that year (which we did), but LSU would likely have been out of the running for the BCS MNC with 2 losses (UF/UGA) earlier that year.

Yeah that was the most incredible game I've ever seen. Except maybe UF 2007.

As originally posted, it was "best" games. The thread title was later edited.

There's one very important non-LSU game that was pivotal to our program...

How about Pitt/WestVA in 2007?
