Whose this Mullin guy in charge of scheduling for MSU, and why didn't Dan Mullen talk some sense into him?

Honestly, do you think that the head coach doesn't have any input into scheduling? I'm sure there are instances that are out of anyone's control, like a move from Sat. to Thurs. But overall, I'd be extremely surprised if head coaches do not have more sway in scheduling than anyone other than the major TV networks.

You have a point there.

....Having said that- we have the better talent, more speed- and a LOT MORE DEPTH.

IF we bring along the "A" Game- the Mutts will have a long night.

This is the most insane post I have read on TD. When does LSU EVER beat anyone by 50? When was the last time if ever LSU beat an SEC team by 50?

MSU is a very good team. They are big, tough and fast. Their RB's run down hill and the QB is more than just good.

While Auburn may not be what they were last year, MSU still went TO AUBURN and should have won.

LSU will have to bring an A game to win at MSU.

When the masochists at MSU's football scheduling office decided to give their Bulldogs 5 days of rest between a road trip to Auburn and a Thurs. night game versus LSU, surely they assumed that the LSU game would be a loss. It's the only explanation. Most teams try to schedule a cupcake or a bye week before a nationally televised matchup against a top-5 team.

Cool, BUT....LSU and Auburn are conference games, not non-conference dates to serve up cupcakes.

What's more insane? Someone saying LSU will beat State by 50 (not an actual claim, hyperbole), or someone's counter-claim that such a notion is the most insane post on the rant?

Being the most insane on the rant is quite a statement. It's like being the fattest contestant on the "Biggest Loser".

I'm worried about LSU looking past state, like 2 years ago.

Surely you jest.
Mullin is pretty secure. He's being mentioned for the UGa job.
The Moo U faithful are smitten with him. He's done wonders for that crappy program.

Moo U will fight hard and will be physical test against our fast but smallish front four.

why would MSU look past arguably the biggest game of the year for them. Playing the 2nd ranked team in the country at home?

Mullin is no fool. He knows how good LSU is. He knows that losing by 50 is a good possibililty whether his team is fresh or not. So why even try? He's not.

The Auburn game exposed MSU fans' high hopes as nothing more than a pipe dream. Mullin knows that his best talent from last year's dream season has moved on to the NFL, and MSU's recruiting has been down in comparison to the rest of his division. Finishing 5th in the West is not only a possibility but a probability.

Knowing this reality, it sets Mullin's focus back where it belongs, out-of-conference. He needs La Tech, UAB, UT Martin, and the all-important Egg bowl to stay bowl-eligible and keep his job. This low standard for success is a foreign concept for the contemporary LSU fan, but remember what MSU is accustomed to: struggling against the likes of Memphis and getting their hearts broken by Maine. Maine!

Despite high hopes this year, the reality is that a sub-tier bowl will placate the Bulldog masses just enough for him to keep his SEC-West coaching salary. Who knows? Maybe one day the rest of the SEC West will be hit with NCAA sanctions, and MSU will actually have a chance to win one year. Or maybe Mullin should just swallow his troublesome integrity and shell out the cash the next time a Cam Newton comes along. Spend enough in recruiting, and then maybe the scheduling masochists will give you a bye week before playing the big dogs.
