I’ve seen a lot of posts about the strength of the returning defense and offense, which is clearly a very most important piece. That being said, it feels like we are missing that punt/kickoff returns big play potential that we’ve had in years past. Without getting into specific players, I don’t remember ever getting that optimistic feeling that we could break a big one and change the tone of the game - heck, outside the Fiesta Bowl kickoff return to open the game, I don’t even remember thinking we may return one this entire season - felt like we were constantly just hoping not to drop the fair catch. Do we have anyone in the wings who can step up and be the big play returns guy?

Apologies if there have been threads on this, I’ve not seen them.

Justin Jefferson would ne a huge upgrade (dispite a less than steller job in the feista bowl). But we have others next season with bigger big play potential.

That’s because Giles was focused on not muffing the punt, not the return after.

Stingley will probably get some reps as a returner. I think he’ll be good for some big returns next season.

Have you watch dereck stingley jr return punts/kicks? The kid runs a 4.30 40yrd, has mind blowing awareness, and black holes for hands. He had 14 punt returns in high school...

Risk/Reward

Orgeron and McMahon went for ball security over explosiveness.
I've never understood CEH as a KO specialist. He's just not a burner so even if he breaks through he's not going to outrun anyone.
Giles was a piece of dry toast as a punt returner.

Yet another reason Stingley has been compared to Patrick Peterson.

He is litterally identical to PP7 in both tangibles and intangibles. The kid is a phenom. Did not allow a single touchdown as a high schooler or a 8th grader... and had 27 int... like how is that possible?!?!?

CEH has been okay, but he doesn't have that breakaway speed as we saw in the Fiesta Bowl. I think we need to get him outta there next season anyway cause it's a liability. He's our only returning RB and will be counted on for most of the snaps next season at RB. I wouldn't risk him getting hurt on KOR.

I wouldn't sell Curry, Fournette and Provens short just yet.

Black holes?

A black hole is a region of spacetime exhibiting such strong gravitational effects that nothing—not even particles and electromagnetic radiation such as light—can escape from inside it.

Emery or Provens will probably be your KO return guys. That is more suited for a running back. They may have promised Emery the job during his recruitment as well. Provens amhas the speed to bust one if needed.

CEH didn’t have too end speed to finish the return but he broke a couple tackles that a lot of people would not have to bust free.

“Black Holes”?

I’m guessing it means goes in and never comes out I.e. no fumble

Not sure why Fournette didn't get a look at KO returns. He's reportedly one of the fastest guys on the team.

Exactly. If the ball gets near stingleys hands it belongs to his hands.
