On sack number one, the one that caused the fumble, LSU went with 5 wides and empty backfield on a 3rd and 4. The play was designed for a quick throw and JD used a cut block to knock Lemonier down, as is called for on such a play. Mett looked to have Landry open on a quick out beyond the sticks, but for whatever reason he did not pull the trigger and decided to pull it down and scramble. Lemonier came off the ground quickly, as a future NFL DE will do, and sacked Mett causing the fumble. As nearly as I can tell, this sack was completly Mett's fault.
On sack #2 late in the first half, LSU lined up in shotgun with Ware to Mett's right and Hill to his left. Hill's first chance in the game and he looked anxious to make a play. He was clearly intended there to chip Lemonier and then release out and JD seemed to be expecting this help. On the snap Hill immediatly released out for a pass inside JD and the DE never chipping. Ware did chip on his side and it seemed that was the intention of the play. After the sack, there was a timeout and on the CST replay you could see the coaches and the line discussing this with Hill and he seemed to be acknowledging his mistake.
Other than those two sacks, JD had a pretty good game. He was not isolated on Lemonier many times but did ok when he was.
All and all, not the terrible and hopeless picture some are painting.
Nice analysis.
Thank you.

he's made completions while on the run prior to the auburn game though. He'll be ok.

What game are you watching?

But, given Miles' history of game management blunders that continually repeat themselves, I wonder if we're lacking that type of attention to detail. It gets more difficult to give the benefit of the doubt, even when our record does not seem to suffer.
It's going to catch up to us this season. Not this week, but probably when we play UF or USCe. It might take Mett getting knocked out of the game again to make Miles reconsider.
My biggest fear is that Clowney or somebody will come through untouched and lay out Mett and he'll be really hurt.

It would lead a sane person to believe that he has seen the other options in practice against similar DE's, and they performed worst than what we see on Saturday.
I think the issue is he knows to make a change at LT means making a change at another position (or more) as well. Miles has always been a repair vs. replace guy. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but you have to realize when something just can't be fixed.

Josh D is a feel good story but shouldn't be starting at LT
maybe, but what other options are there? Hurst had problems as well the other night, so it's prolly not a simple fix to move Hurst over to LT and have Alexander step in at RT.
do you move Collins to LT and JD to LG? obviously Davenport isn't in the mix at LT (even though he's listed as 2nd team LT). do you give Jerald Hawkins a crack (Fr.)? i think not.
I get the concerned, I just don't think there is an easy answer right now.

Nah. That is illogical. Miles could flip those two and still have that loyalty. He doesn't want to move Collins for another reason...right or wrong.

this is kind of my take. This line has already had a lot of shuffling due to injuries, so perhaps even more shuffling is not the answer. Maybe it's a matter of just letting this group play together for a game or two and work out some of their problems. I think we need some consistency instead of always trotting out a different lineup.

Everyone needs to calm the frick down on Josh D. He did struggle a lot against Corey Lemonier.
BUT
No one gives Lemonier one bit of credit. The dude was 1st team All Sec last year. He will likely go in the first round this year if he comes out. Yes... Josh D struggled with him. The fact is, outside of South Carolina, Josh will not face another d-end as good as Lemonier.
Playing a very good D-end on the road with their crowd noise is exteremly tough.... Just ask OTs that have to block our DEs in Tiger Stadium. We get the benefit of getting Clowney and South Carolina and Bama at home with our crowd. I think Josh D. will be just fine.

Ware, as he's our best blocking back
If he keeps running like he did against AU, then he can stay in to block and run. I'm a huge Hilliard fan, but I don't have a preference who carries the rock as long as they carry it forward.

at the weight Ware is at now, if healthy he is the best all-around back on the team

Learning to throw more on first down and 3rd and 3 is what needs to be changed.

what about the times he completely whiffed on the DE on running plays?

he didn't come remotely close to knocking him down or even slowing him down.

I just love people like you, who just can't belive that personell choices are made on merit and what the coaches own eyes and experience tells them.
Watching the game Saturday night I felt like JD was being whipped badly. Upon rewatching every offensive snap on DVR I no longer feel this way. JD actually played pretty well and both of the sacks he gave up were not his fault...well not totally

I rewatched EVERY offensive snap on DVR and focused on JD every play, paying attention to down and distance, and as best I could, trying to divine what the intended blocking scheme was for each play. What game did you watch rantard?

the one where he didnt block anyone all game.
explain how he played well all game besides the 2 sacks that were everybody else's fault yet somehow the DE in front of him was either making the tackle in the backfield on every running play or disrupting the running play?
