Meyer vs. Miles: A closer look

Posted by ESPN.com's Chris Low
They're the last two coaches to win national championships -- LSU's Les Miles and Florida's Urban Meyer.
They both came into the SEC the same season -- 2005.
They both have nationally ranked teams this season with enough talent to win some more hardware.
This is their fourth meeting, with Miles holding a 2-1 advantage.
Here's a closer look at their SEC coaching resumes heading into their showdown Saturday night at the Swamp:
Meyer Miles
Vs. SEC foes 20-8 22-6
Vs. Top 25 foes 11-5 16-5
Vs. Top 25 foes away from home 7-5 10-5
Vs. Top 10 foes: 6-2 8-3
Vs. Top 10 foes away from home 4-2 6-2
In bowls and championships 3-1 4-1
In games won by a TD or less 9-5 13-4
Record at home 21-2 22-2
Record on the road 8-6 12-3
Losses to unranked teams 4 1
Top 25 finishes 3 3
Top 10 finishes 1 3

Off topic, I know, but I find it hilarious that they block ESPN but not Tigerdroppings! The Rant is much more dangerous to their business! If they only knew...

By the way... nice props for Miles there.

Miles is definitely one of the most underrated coaches in college football. I'm tired of hearing people say that his success is because of Saban's recruits... he inherited a great program and has kept it great for 3 years now.

great props to miles..it won't be long before his "boat gambler" title changes..isn't the house supposed to always win?!? not when Miles is "gambling"

It's like I always say "It's not gambling when you have the house odds."

I know they may have been brought in by Satan but Miles is the one who coached them and took them through practice to have them ready for all the games.
Besides Satan couldn't even do what Miles has done with these players.

While theres no doubt Miles has been successful at LSU, whats his stats look when he coaches at programs that arent 2 years removed from a national title?
Meyer has been ultra successful at every place he coached. He won 2 conference titles at Utah in 2 years....they had ZERO title in the 50+ years of competing in college football

Yeah, and conversely, thats one of the funniest things about it all..that Meyer parlayed 2 years at Utah in the Mountain West Conference into the Florida (and/or ND if he really wanted it) Job.

Yeah, he did. Utah fans still love Urban. He made that program what it is today. They had zero conference titles before he arrived...he won them two and took them to a BCS bowl. Now Utah is program ranked in the top 15.

The MWC had only been around for five or so years at the point of Utah winning the title. They had some tough teams before Meyer, but I give him props for winning with the talent that was already there. Sounds familiar.

Les Miles better than Urban Meyer

Ron McBride was the reason for Utah becoming a good program. Look it up. Utahs current coach, Whittingham, says he's a big reason for the success they had in '04.

Yeah, Urban had some talent at Utah but goodness...he took Utah to a freakin BCS bowl. The man can coach.
Posted on 10/9/08 at 1:57 pm to obsessedgator
No way did I say he couldn't coach, just debating the Utah issue.

I'm not being a negative Nancy about our own coach, but I want to see him have the balls to step up and make some adjustments on offense.
If we continue to struggle this year, I want to see if he has the accountability to say that Dan Mullen cannot run the spread well enough for the SEC.
Other than that, Im glad he is our head man.

Lol, they've been at this for the exact same amount of time. What the hell is he waiting for, Zook to come back as recruiting coordinater?
